Hi People, (Updated)
I'm trying to find a 1950 vanished man, in NY.
My grandfather, his name was "Andrea Amico", he used the
english name of "Andrea" "Andrew" and I have a
document of Railroad (1931) where he used another name:
"Andrea Romeo"... but this sound strange for me.
With Suanj & Corrado, we have find some news about the past.
Short Story
He arrived in the the united states in 1899 with his wife "anna genovese"
We know he lived in some place like New York & in New Orleans, Chicago and New York Again.
In 1900 he was in NY (because born a son "tony amico"),
in 1906 he was in NO (because born a daughter is live but she was maybe in an other place.
"emma amico")
in 1911 he was in Chicago (because he request for naturalization) in 1914 he was naturalized
In 1930 from the census we know he lived lonly because the son is buried who know where and the wife too.
In 1932 he went to Italy from Chicago, in 1944 born a child and in 1946, he return to New York.
1950-1951 he vanished.
The Point
He was old, but we want to know informations...
Suan make me send a mail to Bloomberg, but he not respond.
What type of documents, X-Files can we request or find
about 1946-1950 in New York?
Any suggestions?
What we know about 1946-1950
- We know the address of Manhattan (maybe he was in rent),
- We know he took a pension (we have letters where he said to take a pension,
he was worried because he did many small works he was controlled from the pension).
We think that the pension came from the railroad. Because we have found a document of the
"New York Mutual Relief Association" and it was the fifth renewal. But with another surname
"Andrea Romeo".
The Railroad have files only from 1936-present. Other files are who know where...
We presume his retirement was in 1932.
- We know his daughter was live in 1946, and his sister too "francesca genovese".
But we do not succeed to find then census of 1900, 1910 and 1920
and no informations about the two sons and sister.
- We know that someone of New Orleans did its name in 2006
in a site of ancestor from a little town of Italy (www.contessaentellina.net).
But they not respond.
Thanks in Advance!
NiceMusic.

Re: What X-Files for a Vanished Man in New York! (1950)
Nice Summary NiceMusic.
What is your relationship to the person you are searching for? A grandchild? Your relationship may determine if you are allowed or eligible to access to vital records, especially in NY.
You seem confident he was last in NY. Have you tried researching the name is phone books from that period?
Good Luck with your search

Dear Nice Music,
Do you have any theory as to why the name on the pension is different from Amico, Andrea?
You seem to have made a lot of progress. Good luck in finding him!

Hi Debbie
Nice Summary to you!
You are right, maybe I have to make a little update to the post.
Well, he was my grandfather... the name was Andrea or "Andrew" Amico.
But in the "Railroad document" the name was "Andrea Romeo".
You seem confident he was last in NY
Yes, because in the letters there is the address of New York City,
and the last letter is of April 1950.
There were some letters "vanished" where he said to return in Italy in November,December of 1950.
Yes, maybe he went to the daughter or the sister... (but I don't know where they lived in the 46',50') but I think he was in New York in 1950.
The only name that he gave to the passengers list is... a nephew of California, with the address.
For the Phone Book...
I'm thinking to try Intelius WebSite, I don't know other places...
For Peg
Hey
The other name is really strange, suanj say me that it was "normal",
but maybe there was something of shady... and suanj say to me:
"maybe there was a third name!"
I think this name was only for work, but I'm not sure about this.
This document of railroad is an assicuration of 1931, not the pension.
So if the document was the Fifth Renewal and in 1938 In Italy he wrote
on a document "Train Controller"...
I think he worked for the railroad.
I made some progress

Good luck, Peg

Hi!
Do you know if the address 345 E. 62nd Street New York City was in Manhattan or Brooklyn? Either is possible. Check mapquest.com.
Here is how to request a search for a NYC death certificate, for deaths after 1948. Provide as much information as you have and say "not known" for what you don't have.

I read on the web that from 1946 or 1948, census were refreshed every year with new informations...
There's a way to ask for this census, I think to be eligible to access to vital records, especially in NY. 8O

Hi Nice Music.
345 East 62nd Street--This address in Manhattan is a very ritzy (deluxe) neighborhood. 345 62nd Street (no East) in Brooklyn is the dock area.
For the 1950 census, see this explanation:
