I have done extensive research on my family and where they lived in America. I am writing down everything I have uncovered, and everything I have heard from my relatives about my ancestors. In my case, in my family, I have something that helps a great deal. All of my family came from small towns in Italy and and first moved to small towns in America.
So, I have reserched both my maternal and paternal families.
On my paternal side, my fathers family came to America, moved to Wilkes-Barre, Pa then from there to Astoria,Queens,NY. They lived simple, uneventful lives with exposure to nothing different than the average Italian of the period would be exposed to.
On my mothers side however, everything that could possibly go wrong, did. I have 1 murder, 1 kidnapping, 1 execution by the Nazi's, three or four deaths on the job, 5 Ellis Island detentions, and several other very unusual stories. After learning all of this, I decided to write a book about it, dramatize what I have learned, so that my family can learn, what our ancestors went through back in the "old country" and what they dealt with when they came to America.
Well, from what I have discovered, Italians in this country, being both Italian and Catholic, had it very tough. And in my research, I have found several newspaper articles that reflect this. I am posting these articles for those who were not aware of what our ancestors were subject to upon arrival in America.
