Virelli
Virelli
I have been researching my Italian side of the family. I have had some success, but to move forward my research will take me to Ferrandina, Italy. Before I start that I am trying to find my Great-Grandfather Tommaso's brother Vito and his family. The only clue I have is a 1930 Census from Brooklyn, New York. I am wondering what happened to him & his family(I never knew any of them)? His wife's name was Chiara. How can I move forward?
Any suggestions will be most appreciated!

Re: Virelli
Ancestry has obituaries, try searching for the names of any children born to them, the search engine will pick up on any name listed in the obit......you can then determine any family relationships.

Re: Virelli
Natalie,
wldspirit's suggestion is terrific,
if this is the correct 1920 census
there are a few more names to check
for in the obituaries

Re: Virelli
Valarie,
Great work on Camilla's possible death cert on the other thread.
From your 1920 census find, it might be a fair guess that Camilla's husband was Michele. Since Camilla's not living with Vito, I wonder if she's with daughter Caterina and family.
Best,
Biff

Re: Virelli
Thanks Biff , but I forgot to give Natalie
the link to all the IGG databases.
You're right, if Camilla died in 1946,
and it appears she didn't remarry, she
is probably living with one of her children.
edit added:
Perhaps another son?
Paolo Giuseppe Virelli (joining brother Vito)
1903 manifest

Yes, that is my Great-Grandfather's brother Vito & his family! I think my Great Great Grandmother Camilla must be with her daughter Caterina, but where, I don't know...Thank you for the 1920 Census, I only had one for 1910 & 1930.

I too think Camilla is with Caterina, but I don't know where.

Here you go Natalie!
You and Biff were correct.
Camilla is with her daughter in 1920
Please let us all know when you get stuck
again.

I was surprised that you found Giuseppe because the IGA Family Search has him dead about 1900! But on the Manifest you found he is definately going to the right address for his brother! Great find! Thank you!

Re: Virelli
Natalie,
You're right, tough to know who's who
on that terrific IGG site without actually
ordering the record. It can get expensive .
Usually easier (& cheaper) to confirm
some of the information with obituaries,
census, military, naturalization & manifests
first .

Thanks for the tip. When you say Ancestry, do you mean Ancestry.com? I guess I should think about joining it. I had 3 free days about a month ago and was trying to get as much info as I could on all family sides! I did pretty good in 3 days! Thanks,
Natalie
Re: Virelli
Natalie,
Thanks for the jumping up and down visual!
You did great for only 3 days on ancestry.
Looks like the same folks in 1930

Re: Virelli
That would be the one.....if you don't want to spend the money right now,
most public libraries as well as genealogy societies have access to Ancestry.com for free....which in my book is always a plus.....
