Can anybody help with advice regarding finding military records?
Person I seek: Giuseppe Dello Iacono, b. 7 Mar 1889, Torre le Nocelle, Avellino, Campania, Italy.
Questions: at what age would he have registered for military service, and where might those records be located?
Many thanks in advance,

Re: Requesting Military Records?
It appears the LDS do not have military records for this area on microfilm. 17 was the age they were drafted during my grandfathers time according to his stories and my cousins grandfather's stories. There is a military archive you can request the "lista di leva" from. I think there is one located in each province. Sorry I can't be more help.
Re: Requesting Military Records?
Cathy,
Thanks so much for your response. I have since found a list of addresses for Italian Archives, including Avellino.
I suspect this is available other places, but I found it in "Discovering Your Italian Ancestors" by Lynn Nelson, 1997.
The advice is a little dated, given how computers have changed everything, but there is a great deal of reference material which may be of use to many.
Hope your searches remain fruitful!

Re: Requesting Military Records?
off the top of my head, I can't find the English counterpart of this site, but I know there is one: http://www.archivi.beniculturali.it/
From this, find the state archives that corresponds with Avelino. I sent away for these (lista di leva) just a few months ago for Benevento and Reggio Calabria. I just e-mailed the appropriate state archives in Italian. Include the name, birth date and town of birth of the person you are looking for and include your address in the request. They will then tell you if there is a charge. Luckily, there was no charge for BN and RG records. They replied to my e-mail in about 3 weeks and then about 2 weeks later, I got the papers from them.

Here is the link to the Avellino archives: http://www.archivi.beniculturali.it/UCB ... e=AVELLINO
Write to the address there, and if you can find an e-mail address, that would be better.
