Macaluso family

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Macaluso family

Post by bull1982 »

Hi folks!

Need som help to find some Macalusos.

From social security death index:LEONARD MACALUSO

Birth: 14 Feb 1903
Death: Aug 1974 Orange, Essex, NJ

May someone take a look on his Census and see if he had sons?

Thank you so much!

PS:he probably had a child after 1930 and named him Leonard Croce Macaluso.

I found 2 Leonard Macalusos in NJ, but the dates are not right for either one of them.

MACALUSO, LEONARDO (1920 U.S. Census)
NEW JERSEY , PASSAIC, 2-WD; PASSAIC
Age: 55, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: ITAL
Series: T625 Roll: 1062 Page: 222

Leonardo MacAluso city, Passaic, New Jersey abt 1865

Pete MacAluso , city, Passaic, New Jersey abt 1905
Toney MacAluso city, Passaic, New Jersey abt 1912
Carmela MacAluso, Passaic, New Jersey abt 1913
Mary MacAluso city, Passaic, New Jersey abt 1914

Leonardo MacAluso city, Passaic, NJ abt 1917 (1930 census)

Also found this on the SS death index.

Leonard MacAluso date dd mm 2003 city, Passaic, New Jersey
Leonard MacAluso date dd mm 1974 city, Essex, New Jersey

If either of these records is a possibility, let us know. Do you have any other information about Leonardo?

I don't have a subscription to Ancestry.com, but many of our members do. Someone will post the census pages for you.

I've been told that he arrived at Ellis Island in 1919. Not sure of that.
They also found a correspondece that goes back to 1956. Can't read the town name but the County is 100% Orange.

The city is Orange, the county is Essex, it is in North Jersey, not too far from NY. I'll check the census again.

Possible 1930 census

Name: Leonard MacAluso
Home in 1930: Manhattan, New York, New York
Age: 30
Estimated birth year: abt 1900
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's name: Marie

Here is the problem Bull, 1930 is the last census available. If their children were born after that, they would not appear on any census. I'll try NYC birth index to see if anything apppears.

Good news, just as I'm writing you, the Macalusos here sent me this about Leonard's sons.

CROCE LEONARDO (born in 1936)
MARIA ANTONIETTA (unknown)

How could we try to reach'em?

Your Leonard is listed here. Unfortunately this is not a free site and I can't find an address or phone# in a free directory. It might be a dead end. However there is no SS death record for Leonard C. or Mary.
