Pipitone and Rosato Families Palermo 1900

Post by dutchpete »

8O Hi I'm new to this. However, Andrea G.Pipitone born 02 May 1875 and Concetta Rosato born 22 Aug 1883 immigrated to New York in 1904 from Palermo
They were married when they immigrated. I want to locate marriage and birth records for them. Any one out there that can help me? PLEASE.
Thank You

Dutchpete,

Benvenuto to Italian Genealogy!

In order to locate or request birth and/or marriage records, you will need to determine the town(s) where they were born. I did find the ship manifests for Andrea and for Concetta, both of which state Palermo as their place of last residence. However, Palermo is both a town and a province in Sicily. Do you know if they were born in the town of Palermo or in one of the towns located in Palermo province?

Hey Biff & dutchpete,
If exact location in Italy isn't known,
this may help. Andrea's WWI Card
doesn't have town, but he is naturalized.

Andrea's possible naturalization record:
form for ordering
Queens Naturalization Records
Family Name/Given Name
Volume Number/Petition Number/Soundex
Pipitone Andrea
19 4617 P135

or,
Concetta Rosato & daughter
1904 manifest
last residence Palermo
joining husband

note: daughter Maria Pipitone has possible naturalization
markings, it's possible her paperwork may have town of birth
May be under married name & the location would depend
upon where she was living in 1942...

from manifest:
2X 138681 505 4/14/42

2 may be NY, NY
505 is certificate of arrival
4/14/42 is probably date of notation

Okay, they only ever talked about Palermo. That's what makes me nuts. Whenever, I would talk about going to Italy (which I am next month)
They would say "What do you want to go there for?"
Marie's married name was Locassio, or Loccassio. Husband was Joseph
they lived in Queens County. She was a millener and he was a NYC Cab driver. **SPAM** of his medallion funded his retirement! They had a wonderful Victorian House in Flushing.

Oh and do you think the notation was because of the War? Did everyone have to have their papers in order? It was only a few months after Pearl Harbor?
Thank you for all your help!

Not sure of the timing, it's a thought though.
It's also possible that Marie's marriage certificate
has her town of birth.
Best bet may be her naturalization paperwork.
We can check for where to write since she was
in NY.

Since you have some pretty good information,
without the actual record, you may want to try
ordering Marie's naturalization paperwork also?

Location of NY Naturalization Records
NARA NY

Okay, talked to an Aunt, my father's youngest sister who is now 91 we think, any way she said her mother Concetta Rosato or Rosata was from Misilmeri. Her father was Greek and a fisherman. She didn't know how to spell it but it phonically sounded like MOSOLAMERI or (LIA). So what do I do with that? And as far as she doesn't know he father Andrea Pipitone has not little community. My Grandparent's did not live together the last 45 years of their lives at least. My cousin said he talked of a town that means Castle by the sea, in Sicily. I looked at bride data base for Misilmeri and didn't see any Rosato's but did see some Pipitone's.,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hello,

Posted in the other topic that Castellammare del Golfo is a town west of Palermo on the Golfo di Castellmmare.

Did not know grandparents there but from this found the brother in 1900:

Six Pipitones in 1910 but no Andrea in NYC. HeritageQuest may have missed them and Ancestry or another site might have them.

Ferro (from Ferri), Capriotti(TE); De(i)Marzio, Nervina(o), Colucci, Gatto, Testa(CB); Basile(BA) ; Bianchi(AQ); Augello, Bissi, Iacono(AG); Pisano(), Impaglia () Friends looking also: Vivenzio (SA); LoPiccolo(PA)-seems to be Lopicolo originally

Ciao Dave,

following your clue I've found a manifest where are listed a woman with two children going to meet the Husband/Father Michele Pipitone in Elizabeth street....
Think they are the family of your 1900 census...
Don't understand well the last name of the woman... it seems Iuzza or Truzza, the sons are Giacomo, 2 years and Ignazio 5 months (maybe Giacomo was a girl, so in the census is Giacomina)

Arrival date Sept. 19, 1899
Image

They declared to came from Palermo ....
Have you seen the town where the others emigrants came from? Casteltermini??
