looking for relatives in Bari and Puglia and Italy

Hallo,
 My great-grandfather Nicalas Ambriola was born in 1830 on the Ionian island Zante (now Zakynthos). He moved in 1836 with his father Francesco Ambriola and mother Nathalina Vatch to Corfu.His profession was sailor.He went in 1860 to the Netherlands and married there a Dutch woman. They got a son Jacobus Franciscus Ambriola(My grandfather).He marrid with Maria Thecla van Emmerik and they got 6 children. One of them, Nicolaas Marinus Ambriola was my father.I\'m Jan D.Ambriola. I have a son Marcel Ambriola (40years old). We are building a family tree and like to find out if we have family in Italy

Did you try the Italian White Pages? If you know the city where your family may have originated from, you could start there. Go to www.paginebianche.it and put your family name Ambriola on the first line and enter the city on the third line. Evidently you must have a city name in order to do a search. Hope this is helpful.
 
 I just put Ambriola into the search with Roma as the city and found 6 people with that name! This was just a stab in the dark, so it looks like you indeed may have living relatives in Italy!!! Good Luck! [ This message was edited by: RVcook on 09-10-2002 13:01 ]

 My Great grandfather Nicola Ambriola was born on the Ionian Island Zante (Zakynthos). He moved when he was 6 years old with his parents to the Ionian Island Corfu. From there he moved when he was 30 years old to the Netherlands. I allready was looking for relatives on Corfu but coulden\'t find any. I think that it is posible that brothers or sisters from him went back to Italy. I know that there are many familys Ambriola in and around Bari and Puglia. I was hoping to make there an contact with someone who knows thet his family came from the Ionian Islands.

more than likely the family that knows something comes from Bari and other towns in Puglis. There are only 40 or so Ambriola and if you are highly motivated perhaps sending a same letter to all persons (some may be businesses and duplicate addresses) in the listing of Ambriola in Puglia may be the answer instead of cursing the darkness. Write one letter and get the names and addresses from the www.paginebianche.it for Bari and the remaining provinces and send them a self addressed envelope. Its the best way to resolve this quickly and efficiently. Peter
