I live in Brazil, and here we have many variants for this surname, so I can't say to you the origin.

I know that exist the names... 'cavassan', 'cavasan', 'cavazan', 'cavazanna', 'cavazzani', ... and I don't know what is the main surname.

My friend live in Milano and he told me this surname is from Vêneto region, but I don't know if it is true.

I point this out because there is a Giacinto Cavazzan who immigrated to Brazil in august 1916. I bring this to your attention because first names continue in families and since Giacinto is not that common for a male first name, I thought it would be worthwhile to bring it to your attention as a possiblity that the Giacinto in Martignacco and the Giacinto inBrazil are related. =Peter=
