Emmigration to England

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Emmigration to England

Post by bird-dog »

Hello everyone. I have been asked by some elderly friends in the UK to see if I can find out any information of an old friend of theirs. Prior to WW2 they were friends with an Italian born around 1900? who was living in England. When the war started he was interned. My friends have no idea where he was sent to, and now later in life (they are in their 90s) would like to know. His name was Ernesto Roberto Callini. Has anyone any ideas where I can start my search please?? I have spent hours going in circles, getting nowhere. Thanks

The BBC have genealogy message boards, you might try there.
Do you know where he was born, Italy or England? If he returned to Italy he probably went back to his town of birth.
If he was born in England, he probably stayed. Did you check the death records in England?
Good Luck!
