Need help researching Fiorino!

Post by newgenie »

I'm trying to research my father's side of the family.

I've gotten to my great grandfather whose name was Sam Fiorino, I'm assuming he was born in Sicily somewhere, and I believe his father's name was Antonio, and mother Anna.

My grandfather lived in the Cleveland OH area, but I don't know if the family came from Italy to Cleveland or lived somewhere else before coming here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Do you have any other information that may
help with the search in Cleveland?
Approx ages, wife's name (& maiden name),
children's names?
Anything you else you can think of...
Thanks!

That's my family Biff. That is what I have found too so far.

I wish I could find out Anna's maiden name and Jennie's maiden name too. Birthdates, birthplaces, etc.

Thanks for your response!

Dear Newgenie did yiou request a copy of their (long form) death certificate from the Cleveland Vital Recoprds which may have leads for you to follow. I am thinking about their town of origin in Sicily here and perhaps some addresses of interest to you. I am assuming they were US citizens at time of their passing. =Peter=

Laura,

Oh my! I can't believe the information you have found! That is my family on the 1920 census! So now I can see they were in Pennsylvania before Cleveland.

I did not have the draft cards- thanks for posting!

I appreciate you and the work you've done!
Grazie!

Hi!! :D
Thanks!
Here everybody is glad to help.....
I'm happy to see that it's your family.... but... I'm still searching Santo's mother Anna Arrival manifest  .....
Do you know if she came with her daughter Angela?
And... when you're ok with these records I found also some Antonino Fiorino's sons (possible Santo's brothers), coming from Italy to meet their father in PA....

Hi there Laura!

Still can't believe all the information you have found. It's amazing!

I do not know if Anna came with her daughter Angela... I do not know if Santo had brothers.. He had a sister Angela whose married name was Comai.

Thanks!

Well Jessica,

we can do a little resume:

Fiorino Antonino 1899 arrival, going to Walston PA (possible Santo's father.... I think more than possible  Note he's travelling with others men from S. Pier Niceto, especially an Antonuccio)
http://img341.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... rriii9.jpg

Afterwards we can see Santo Fiorino's first trip to Usa in 1900 going to his father Fiorino (can't read well the town but Probably somewhere in PA). He was travelling with a relative Marzagalli? Giuseppe (going to the same Fiorino as cousin)

http://img301.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... valvj7.jpg

So, searching for others Fiorinos from the same places I found a Fiorino Rocco landed on 1903 coming from San Pier Niceto, going to Walston PA to his brother Antonino Fiorino (I think he can be Santo's uncle.....)

[img=http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/9943 ... mk7.th.jpg]

And this interesting 1910 arrival manifest about Giuseppe Fiorino (born 1884) coming from San Pier Niceto and going to meet his father Antonino in Sagamore PA, leaving in Italy his wife . He was in Pennsylvania before from 1900 to 1908....

1910 arrival page 1:

1910 arrival page 2:
[img=http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/3787 ... ut1.th.jpg]

Possible Giuseppe's First trip in 1900 going to Walston:
[img=http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/6572 ... ko3.th.jpg]

Edit:

Considering that in 1920 Census and in his WWI Draft Card Santo was living in Dayton-Armstrong-PA, this 1910 Census can be right for the two Fiorino's brother...:

1910 United States Federal Census
about Santo Fiorino
Name: Santo Fiorino
Age in 1910: 24
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1886
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Boarder
Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Home in 1910: Dayton, Armstrong, Pennsylvania
Marital Status: Single
Race: White
Gender: Male

Tony Giorgione 3/12
Joe Privke 24

Santo Fiorino 24 boarder
Giuseppe Fiorino 27
boarder
Francesco Sgro 23
Peter Sgro 36

1910 Census[img=http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5921 ... vu1.th.jpg]

Don't know it these manifests are all about your family, but as I noticed there were not so many Fiorinos from San Pier Niceto I think possibly they all were related....

I searched so much to find also Anna's manifest... Probably she travelled under her maiden name, so the nearest record I found is this:

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about Anna Antonuccio
Name: Anna Antonuccio
Arrival Date: 4 Jun 1921
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1859
Age: 62
Gender: Female
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Italian (South) (Italian)
Ship Name: Guglielmo Peirce
Search Ship Database: Search the Guglielmo Peirce in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Nativity: Italy
Line: 23
Microfilm Serial: T715
Microfilm Roll: T715_2977
Birth Location: Italy
Birth Location Other: s pier niceto
Page Number: 184
She was called in USA by her daughter, Anna Fiorino living in PA - Westmoreland County.... Perhaps Anna was Angela? (it's a little bit strange mother and daughter with the same first name...)

Page 1:
[img=http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/6532 ... jp1.th.jpg]

Page 2:
[img=http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5480 ... fv2.th.jpg]

Tell me your impressions about these records..... :D

You can find Fiorino's family civil acts (births, marriages....etc) in the Family History Center's Microfilm:

Italy, Messina, San Pier Niceto - Civil registration
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... ato+civile

Titles Registri dello stato civile, 1820-1910 San Pier Niceto (Messina). Ufficio dello stato civile

Hope this can help you! And hope some other member can help searching Anna's right manifest!
