He was born August 1868 in Trapani and died August 29th, 1948 in New Orleans.
His father was Alberto Quenqui DOB approx. 1848 and his mother was Josepha Caradoni.
He married my 3rd Great Grandmother Carmela Arceri 7/15/1886 in Trapani, Sicily. I have their marriage information and information on when they came to the US. If you are interested I can email you a copy. He came to the US with my 3rd Great Grandmother and her son after they married. The information is at Genealogy.com. His name is Albert Guenqua. He came to the US Aug. 18, 1886. It said his final destination was New York, he was a shoemaker.

Hi Missy, thank you so much for the info!! I will be e-mailing you today. My grandmother and aunt are so excited, they are calling me everyday to see what else has been discovered. It is amazing about how little we know about our own family, and we thought we knew a lot.
I know that Alberto left Carmela for Vincenza, and the way my family talked about it, he should not have done that, they said that Carmela was a very nice refine woman. It is documented that Carmela and Albert had a house on Joliet Street in New Orleans, and Carmela signed off of the house during the divorce proceedings. I do have a picture of Albert from my grandmothers wedding taken around 1946 1947. I know my grandmother has more pictures but I'll have to talk to her about getting them to copy, (which won't be an easy task)!!! Well, thank you so much!!! Carmita

My family had thought she married Alberto in Louisiana but we were able to get the marriage license that showed they got married a week or so before coming to the US. Hey Missy, If Alberto and Vincenza got married in 1910 then he divorced Carmela shortly before that because she was pregnant for Frank when they got married. Vincenza's maiden name is Giordano, daughter of Frank Giordano and Rosa Caravella Giordano. Vincenza had three or four sisters, none of which the family new about.
Not to change the subject, but did you see the article in the New York Times about Albert and another man in a pistol duel!! I heard about that one from my great grandmother Josephine. Too funny!

It is good to hear from you. My 3rd Great Grandmother was married to Alberto Quenqua and came to the US with him. The information I have is that he was born in 1868 in Trapani. His father was Alberto Quenqua also and he was born 1848 and married to Josepha Caradoni. I am not a decendent of his but Carmita is. She is the GG Grandaughter of Alberto who married my Great Grandmother. I will forward your email also to her. I have not yet requested the microfilm from Trapani but once I do I will check to see if Alberto had any siblings and see if you are related.

Melissa and I are looking for any and all that can be found on the Arceri family. A very nice person on this forum found quite a bit in Trapani. Melissa and my husband's great grandmother was Carmeli Arceri, who married Alberto Quenqua in July 1886, just a few weeks before coming to America. Carmeli had a 2 year old son who came to America with them, but the father of the boy was not Alberto. We do not know who the father was, so we are stuck!

There was a very famous bakery in the old town ;
The right italian for the name Carmeli is Carmela ;

In the year 1886, today July 1st, time 11.00 am in the town hall, in front of me (name and last name) registrar of town of Trapani, it came Quenqua Alberto, 20 years old, shoemkaer, living in Trapani, son of Alberto, 64 years old, porter, living in Trapani, and mother unknown;
and Arceri Carmela, 31 years old, housewife, daughter of Girolamo (death), salt maker, lived in Trapani, and Bianco Francesca, living in Trapani
both (Alberto and Carmela) asked me to show the pre-marriage act in this town hall where they want to get married
the broom declared to be born in Trapani, the bride in Trapani, both living in Trapani at least from one year till today, they have not adopted parents, not kindred, who is not stopping the marriage.
These declarations are witnessed with legal swear: Piacentino Agostino, 40 years old, and Romeo Mario, both livinf in this town, witnesses of this act.
Checked the documents showed to me, with my sign on them, I put all of them in the file attached to this register, I declare the pre-marriage showing will bw done in Trapani.
The documents are: the copies of birth act of broom and bride, gave to registrar of Trapani, and the father of the broom came to accept the
request of marriage.

1) Quenqua Alberto, 20 years old, shoemaker, born in Trapani, son of Alberto, living in Trapani and unknown mother;
2) Arceri Carmela, 31 years old, housewife, born in Trapani, living in Trapani, daughter of (he was) Girolamo, lived in Trapani, and Bianco Francesca, living in Trapani.
They asked me to marry them, they show me the document below; checking the document I
received for the pre-marriage act, all signed by me, I put everything in this register, there isn’t any
reason that would stop the marriage, I read to the couple, the articles n.130,131,132 of Civil Code,
and so I ask the broom if he wants to marry with Arceri Carmela, and I ask her if she wants to
marry Quenqua Alberto; both answered positively, with the presence of witnesses, I pronounced, in
the name of law, that both are united in marriage. Witnesses are: Melendez Luigi, 71 years old, and
Cintura Sebastiano, 21 years old, cook, both living in this town.
The documents shown are: pre-marriage act, first show July 4th, second show July 11th, and the
declaration of the father of the broom to consent the request of marriage.
I read this document to all the people present, I sign, everyone signs but the bride who declares to
be unable to write

My name is Lou Barovechio. I live in New Orleans. My surname is actually spelled Barrovecchio but was altered when my father immigrated from Trapani, Sicily. My grandfather was Luigi Barrovecchio and was a tailor. My maternal grandmother's surname was LaPica. As far as I know, myself and sisters and cousins are the only Barrovecchio/Barovechio family in U.S..
I am curious as to whether we are related?
