Rinella family
Hi My name is Angela Gooden .
My grandfathers name was Joseph Anthony Rinella. His parents were
Catherine Quatrocchi and Sam Rinella. They came from Palmero Italy
around the 1900's I believe. They also had 4 other children; Rose,
Frank, Michael, and Samuel.
My grandfather, Joseph, was born on/about Sept 27 1913 and passed away in Oct. 16, 1971 in Cleveland, OH.
His brother Frank, had a daughter by the name of Pamela.
My great- great-grandparents, Joseph's grandparents, were Frank
Rinella and Margaret Bissessi (sp?). They had 6 children all together
I believe. Frank, Joseph, Anthony, Rose, Margaret, & Annabelle.
If anyone could provide any more insight, that would be great. I did
find someone with the same info on a message board but it was years
ago. it was the Pamela that I mentioned above. This info can be found
here http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.rin ... .1/mb.ashx.
Thanks so much!

Re: Rinella family
Yeah, I have looked through them and not found a connection yet. Thanks!
Re: Rinella family
Hello Angela!
A start:
Have you placed your Rinella family on any
census records yet? Sometimes there are
some terrific clues in these records. These clues
help in finding more records: ship manifests,
immigration, military, vital records, etc
If you don't have a subscription to ancestry.com,
sometimes your local library has a subscription.
Ancestry.com is terrific because it allows you to
search for any family member on the census.
Another option is to check with your library to
see if they have a subscription to Heritage Quest.
A lot of libraries allow home access to the Heritage
Quest database with only a library card (my library
even issued a card over their website). The only
drawback to Heritage Quest is although it has many
search options - it is only indexed by head of family.

Re: Rinella family
I finally have a bit more information....so I wanted to see if anyone else could build on any of it.
My great-grandmother was:
Caterina Quattrocchi
Birth Date: 10/4/1890
Birthplace: Termeni, Palmero, Sicily
Arrival Date: 9/29/1905
Ship: SS Ligurua
Port: New York, New York
She was married to:
(?) Sam, Salvatore, Santo (?) Rinella
Birth Date: 1885
Birthplace: Termeni, Palmero, Sicily
Deceased: 1919
They were married in:
Akron, OH on 1/10/1910
The children listed are:
Rose Franchino - b. Akron, OH 10/16/1911, res. Los Angeles, CA
Joseph (who was my grandfather) - b. Akron, OH 9/27/1913
Frank - b. Akron, OH 3/16/1920
I also believe that this is the 1910 census showing Caterina and her family before she was married
1910 Census for Quattrocchi
If anyone can provide any more detail, that would be great!
Thanks!

If your census is correct, here's a possible death certificate for Natale Quattrochhi

Yes, this does look correct.

Married to Madeline Mathias
Antone's Father:
Michal "Mike" Rinella
b. 23 June 1889 Trabia
d. 5 January 1979 San Jose, CA
Antone's Mother:

Any connection?

Re: Rinella family
For reference
1905 manifest of Caterina Quattrocchi traveling with her mother Margherita Bisesi, sister Antonia, brothers Michele, Mercurio and Antonio. Going to Margherita Bisesi's husband (Caterina's father) Natale Quattrocchi in Cleveland Ohio. All children US born except for Caterina.

Edit to add comment...............Biff maybe you can find the american passports on ancestry (I don't have a subscription).

Re: Rinella family
Thanks! I dont see any Rinella connection just yet, but...I am trying to figure out why the Naturization papers that I have say that Caterina's daughter was living in LA and not with her. This was in 1955, I believe.Quiksilvez wrote:Hi Angela,

Biff can you take a look at this and let me know if you think it's a possibility? If you think it's an error I'll edit this post.
1920 census Akron, OH
Natale Quattrocchi with his wife and children including Caterina (Catherine) and grandson Joseph

Re: Rinella family
Hi Elizabeth
!
That's definitely the 1920 census for Catherine and son Joseph living with her parents. Shows Catherine as a widow (husband Sam died in 1919 per Angela's post); Joseph's approximate yob 1915 also checks. I've reposted a larger image below.
http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/4483 ... 920qo8.jpg
I did not find any passport applications for this family (Rinella, Quattrocchi, Bisesi) but it was not necessary in the early 1900s to procure a passport for overseas travel since re-entry to the States was relatively easy. After the immigration laws changed relative to literacy requirements--I believe between 1917 and 1924--Italians who had naturalized applied for passports to ensure their re-entry since they were not subject to the new regulations.
