Okay, this one's been a brickwall for awhile....
Pasquale CORTESA born around 1845 in Italy
Wife: Anna ? born around 1850 in Italy
Married about 1870
Immigrated 1882
Children:
Rosina born 4 Dec 1888 in Philadelphia, PA (married Antonio Cristinziani)
Anna born around 1891 in Philadelphia, PA
1910 census information attached... I don't believe I ever found them in the 1900 census - but they would have been in Philadelphia...
I have Rosina's birth certificate, I will dig it out this weekend, it may have had Anna's maiden name....
I'm looking to find them across the pond or a manifest... any help appreciated - even if just possible matches... The CORTESA surname has a few variations I believe... CORTESO/CARTESA/CARTESO/CORTESE
Thanks
Mike

Re: CARTESI/CORTESA
Hi Mike,
it's only a little note but from the 1910 census it seems Anna and Rosina's mother wasn't Anna-wife of Pasquale (their mother is listed as born in Pennsylvania).... Maybe the daughters were born by a first wife?

Re: CARTESI/CORTESA
And I never found a census taker I could trust...
Yeah, I seen that, but it also states they've been married for 40 years... and both immigrated in 1882.... That along with Rose's birth certificate with Anna as her mother nullify's the census takers penmanslip...
But good catch, none the less - proves that every hair of evidence needs to be finely combed...
Here's an article I wrote for DearMyrtle a couple years back, kind of goes through the mental process of genealogical research in a fun way.... GenSlant: Fact, Fiction, and Everything In Between
Thanks...

Hi Mike!
I enjoyed your article
. Thank you.
Was 833 League a multi-unit house?
In 1900 only one family was enumerated…
(Ward 2, ED 50)
Noticed in 1920 that Anna was still living there with Antonio & Rosina.
(immig 1885)

My Cortesi came to San Francisco and Chicago, not to PA...

I pulled out my files, and unfortunately Rosina's birth record (1888) did not include Anna's maiden name.... So I'm currently looking for:
1900 Census Philadelphia PA
Manifest for Pasquale and Anna (1885)
Anna's maiden name
MM
Re: CARTESI/CORTESA

Re: CARTESI/CORTESA
vj,
Thanks for the manifest, I'll put it aside, just in case... age works...
Yeah, I'm hoping the 1900 census has more of the children.... which in turn will give a better chance of validating a passenger list...
Mike
