Giorgio Rotolo

Post by Dr.Rotolo »

My father, Giorgio Rotolo, arrived at Ellis Island on November 7, 1912 at the age of 24.
Last place of residence: Caccamo, Palermo
Manifest Line Number: 0029
Ship of travel: Berlin
Port of Departure: Palermo

His birthdate: November 26, 1887
Date of Death: December 3, 1960

Had two children: Nicholas: Born: August 13, 1938 in Chicago Heights, IL
Angelina: Born: July 21, 1939 in Chicago Heights, IL

Married Veronica Laudani (maiden name) approx. 1936-37 in Chicago Heights, IL

Vernica had divorced from Vincent Peri so her name on marriage certificate could be Veronica Peri.

I know my father was only one to come to America and he had 2 brothers and 1 sister. My grandparents names were Angelina and Nicholasi.

I would like to know my aunt and uncles' names, (aunt was Maria) and their familes, who they married, children, etc.

Would like to know my grandmother's (Angelina) maiden name...how many brothers and sisters she had. Also, my grandfathers' siblings (Nicholasi).

Hi and welcome to the forum.

This link will take you to a site for free records of Caccamo. The person is still working on the site but has access to the records. Might be worth emailing her and asking if she could look up the info you would like.

http://www.capital.net/~debhill/Caccamo.html

If you don't have any luck there you can order the microfilms from the LDS for Caccamo. There are civil records from 1820 through 1910.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... ato+civile++

You have to go in to a Family History Center (FHC) to order the films you would like to view
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

Hope this helps.

For reference: Giorgio's manifest

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0029

p2

I don't know if you noticed on the manifest, but the name above Giorgio's, Giuseppe Cecala, was going to the same cousin at the same address. I can't make out the cousin's name, it looks like Franchi Bondi, but I can't be sure. Someone have better eyes? 8O

This may give you some clues to Angelina's name.

I found some interesting manifests..............

1904 - giuseppe Rotolo - going to JOIN his father Nicasia in Murphysboro, Ill - same spelling of fathers first name in reference to Giorgio's manifest
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0009

1903 - Pietro Rotolo - going to join his brother-in-law in Murphysboro Il - another interesting manifest he and the 4 people listed above him going to the same place............

Possible that Giorgio's father came to the USA to work for a while and then returned to Sicily?

Cecala seems to be a common name in Caccamo even today.

The address that Giorgio and Giuseppe were going to looks like 1118 Latrobe Ave. no town given, but the people above are going to Murphysboro, so I think Billie's manifests may be correct. Take a careful look at them all.

I noticed that the name Dioguardi also appears on Billie's manifest and mine. That name is another family connection. I think you may have more family members than you thought who emigrated. Does Murphysboro ring a bell at all? Can someone help us with census info??????

I think you should check all these manifests and look for common names and addresses in Italy and US.

Meanwhile, I'll check Castle Garden for earlier records.

Sure, I'm pretty sure we've seen this before - his father
