Are you looking for an Italian surname? Do you need more information about your family heritage?
This is the right place to start your genealogy search.
I have a relative who was born in Connecticut under the name Antonio/Anthony MORGANELLI. however, at some point in his life, I think it was his early 20s, he left Conn due to "legal reasons" and went west changing his surname to MORGANELL to avoid capture by local authorities.
I have located him in a 1930 census for Cook County Illinios living at 342 West Chicago Ave (line 37-39) with his wife Edith and daughter Charlaine. I know for a fact this is him.
I can not locate them in any other census in Illinois prior or after this year.
His wife's parents were from Norway (which we knew). However, what we did not know is that Edith and Charlaine were born in Minnesota.
I do not know Edith's maiden name, but I do know she worked as a telegraph operator in Illinois. Whether she did that as well in Minnesota I do not know.
Anthony was born in Connecticut in April 1982 and died in Illinois March 1966.
Edith was born in Minnesota in 1902.
Charlaine was born in Minnesota 1923.
So, my request is, can anyone have better luck than I can in finding these people? I no longer have access to ancestry.com due to cost reasons or I would try and look more there myself.
Thank you!

Yes that is him! I have that actually.
Where I am stumped is;
When did Edith and Anthony get married?
Did they have any other children besides Charlaine?
When did Edith die?
Where did Anthony live when he first went to Minnesota?
I just found out Edith's maiden name was: BERG. Her mother's maiden name was: DAHLIN.
Having trouble creating an account to eh Cook County genealogy site..server issues. Will try again tomorrow. Although I did manage to find the MN state Archives which gave me a few actual birth dates and Edith's maiden name.

According to the 1930 census, Edith states her age as 20 when she and Anthony married, so date of marriage would be about 1922 which jives with approximate birth year of 1924 for Charlaine. All we can surmise is that sometime between June 1917, the date of his WWI Card, and about 1922, the date of his marriage, Anthony moved to Minnesota. He could have been in Illinois, Minnesota or another state in 1920.

I didn't notice it before but on the 1930 census Anthony states he was a veteran and served in WWI. So sometime after June 1917 he was either drafted or enlisted in the military. Because he was a native born veteran, he did not have to register during WWII.

Wondering if it is possible that Antonio/Anthony had family in Cook county....there are a number of MORGANELLI listed in this area,
they can be found at the Cook county site or the Illinois State Databases: Illinois State Database

The dialects of modern Italian all have their roots in the spoken form of Latin (Vulgar Latin), in use throughout the Roman Empire. Vulgar Latin had, no doubt, its own local peculiarities before the fall of the Empire. The political instability that followed Roman rule kept Italy from re-uniting as ...
