Bevilaqua & Cozzo and De Fazio & Tocci
I am trying to find (of course, so is everyone else here), my G/G/grandmothers family. I was told that my family spoke a dialect with an Albanian influence that differed from "traditional" italian".
Looking for Gaetano Cozzo and Anastasia Bevilaqua
When I looked up the last name of Bevilaqua there was a family with the spelling of Bevilacqua, but that spelling does not ring a bell to my oldest relative who provided the information.
Anyone have any information on any of these names?
THey had a daughter namd Fortunata who married a Michele or Michael De Fazio and she had 2 sons a Michele/Michael and a Joseph/Guiseppe.
She came to the US in 1890 with only the son Michele/Michael, had Joseph, then "supposedily had another child, a daughter named Concett with a different husband.
Where it gets "confusing" is her "oldest" son Michele/Michael shares the same last name as she had with his father, when she died. So the daughter Concetts's father's last name is unknown.
*****************
Fortunata married Michele/Michael and his parents were: Giuseppe DeFazio and Caterina Tocci.
Anyone know of these names?
Thank you

Do you know her town of origin in Italy since the town contains most of the records and family history for all births, marriages and deaths and this would resolve your inquiry quickly and possibly on microfilm at your nearest Mormon family history library. =Peter=

All I know is that it was a town that spoke that dialect. I do know that her husband's family came from "riccia". Now, whether or not she did is questionable.
As we do know that there are references to my paternal side of the family being 1/2 Calabrese and 1/2 Naepolitian. Which of the prior generations is anyone's guess.
I have tried the LDS site and there was a reference to a Anastasia Bevilacqua and the relative I am trying to find is Anastasia "without the "C") in the last name.
That is about the only help the LDS has been able to provide.

Yes, that is the one we are trying to trace back to Italy.
There was something wrong with the "info" on Michael. He was never called/named Nicholas. As he was born in Italy and immigrated in 1890, so the census would have made him at least 30. SInce he died very young, 38 and did not appear in the 1930 census, he would have been born in 1886.

IS the town referenced called Carffuggi? I have no real experience with towns/cities in Italy except for the more popular tourist destination.
Thanking you in advance, you are a Angel

I'm so glad we could help.
My best guess would be
Carfizzi, comune of Carfizzi, province Crotone, region Calabria
http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/calabria/carfizzi.html
Does this look possible?

Re: Bevilaqua & Cozzo and De Fazio & Tocci
Very well, might be. As they claimed to be part Calabrese and I am assuming that those from Calabria would be Calabrese.
I have only in the last 2 weeks decided to see where I came from and fortunately, the oldest relative has a very sharp mind.
One thing that has me "confused", the Fortunata that I referenced "claimed" to be form the Lombardy area. On the map that is the northern part, yet, the dialect that she spoke "albanian-italian" is southern. I have a feeling that the Bevilaqua "might" have been from there and moved south.

The Family History Library has records for Carfizzi in two Provinces in Calabria:
film notes
If you can find Michele's birth act, it should have the information
for both parents & where they were from.
