Think vj's posting of the arrival records with the name Carusone is the correct name. She stated there were many in Girard with that surname. And there are many with that exact spelling who came through Ellis Island. vj has done great work as usual and found valuable information!

vj wrote:I guess the most logical explanation is that you have two Rosa’s.

If Vincenzo (James) and Andrea? (Andy) were brothers, chances
are based on their census records, that
- they immigrated about the same time
- married abt the same time
- named their 1st daughter Rosa, probably after their mother…

Valarie....

There is an application for passport for a Vincenzo Carusone and his family. It even has a picture of them all. It states his father is Pasquale...could this be the same Vincenzo who is brother to Andrea?

Hi essgee!
Really neat record.
I'm pretty sure Vincenzo was born abt 1879 from his manifests,
WWI Card & census records.
My guess was going to be some form of Lawrence/Louis for his father.
I'll bet your passport find is a cousin.
Just when I thought that we'd found all the Carusone's in Trumbull County.
Thanks! Valarie

edit:added

At least 4 Carusone brothers based on 1904 manifest

Wow, thanks everyone. Just one more question though. I found what I think is Rose's father's ship manifest; however, I cannot understand the writing of my GGGM's maiden name. I assume it is Pauella? Now, this Andrea has to be my GGGF because he's going to Girard, OH and both names match that of Rose's death certificate.

Not sure,
If this isn’t your Andrea, it may be a cousin
Per this manifest, he and his daughter were both born in Pontelatone
(not Bellona)
Carusone was a very common surname in Caserta
It wouldn’t have been unusual at all for many families from the same
comune/town/province to immigrate to the same location

I was looking over Andrea's ship manifest and the 1920's census of Girard. His age in the 1910 ship manifest is 32 and in the 1920's census he is 42. Approximately ten years. So, I am positive this is my GGGF. I just wish I could figure out my GGGM's maiden name.

It would be wonderful if you went to imageshack or another program and removed your posting of the manifests and reposted in a smaller platform. Would take up a lot less space and we can read it more easily.

Did you notice on the manifest that a few people down is a Giuesppe Carusone...and lists his father as Luigi. Could he be a brother? Age is only 18.

On second page appears to be crossed out, but indicated he was on his way to Ohio and to cousin Vincenzo....

Great work!

Now that makes sense as Parilla is a name out of Bellona as well as explaining the name Mary Perry on the death certificate!

Both of you have done a great job.......

Thanks essgee :D ,
Too bad Steve Morse is down for Ellis Island.
No luck on a 1903 (prob before 1905) manifest on ancestry.
A search by town may help.
Her name may have been some form of 'Marietta'

Shrugs05 wrote: 12 Sep 2008, 19:55 Well, I hit a road block and I am lost as to where to search. I ordered a copy of my GGM's birth certificate hoping I would find the original surname...but I didn't. It had the changed surname and plus an affidavit when it occurred. My GGM is Rose Mary Carson (born 01/27/1905). The original surname is debatable among my family. Some think it is Cassone and some think it is Carsone. Her birth date is debatable too. Some think it is 01/27/1905 and some think 09/18/1905 (according to her DC). Now, Rose was born here is the US (Girard, Ohio to be exact). I am also trying to find information on her parents too. On my GGM's BC, it says Vincenzo Carson and Philomena Antilof. Of course, those are incorrect surnames. I have no clue where to start and I would appreciate if someone can help and clarify this issue for me. Such a mess this is. Thanks.
Hello...new to all of this.... your GGM is my Grandmother...and I am trying to understand our family line. Is there a way we can connect?
