Newbie (help with Contrata/DiLuzio)

Greetings everyone.

My father and I have been toying with the idea of tracing our geneology after realizing a hand written document containing our heritage was lost in a fire 10 years ago.

With a family not big on connection...it is proving to be rather difficult, so I thought I would turn to this website in hopes of getting some answers, info, or even links to other avenues.

We are currently stuck on my great grandmother/father information. Here is what I have.

GGmother - Assunta Contrata(?) born August 13, 1898 in Salerno, Italy
- possibly came through Ellis Island when she was 15 yrs old - 1913

GGfather - Gioaccino DiLuzio no birth date or place of birth
- we know that he came through Ellis Island, but rumored to be in the mafia and could have been kept off/deleted from records...not sure about that one

We believe they were married in either Lowel, Watertown, or Boston Proper Massachusettes in the early 1900's.

So, that's about it. If any of you can offer any help in this search, I would gladly appreciate it! Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

This site will help with the name distribution in Italy today. Plug the name in the left search bar. As you can see, it is only common in four places and is rather unique. That would be a good starting point..

Do you have his death certificate or naturalization papers? SS Application? Can you obtain a copy of the marriage certificate? They may provide you with some clues on where he was from. Of course, if the rumor is true then he may have lied on them but you don't really have anything to lose.

Its hard when you only have secondary sources to work with but they may help you get to the records you need.

I'm having a real bad connection here, I checked footnote for records,
found quite a few, but there barely loading for me.......

Since Edmondo was so nice to give us additional tools for research.... can you check it out??

I think the name could honestly be CONTRADA, found records for
Pasquale, and some for Di Luzio.

Also, I think Gioacchino came from ANVERSA DEGLI ABRUZZI,
AQUILA PROVINCE, ABRUZZO REGION. Nearest match for the town name that I could find in Aquila.

Pasquale Contrata is from Avellino Italy (_alcione but the word is cut off). His wife's name is Adelina and he lives at 40 Frankfort St East Boston(address is a match). He filed his first Declaration of Intent on Jan 13 1920 and he was Sworn in on 13 Dec 1926.
