impossible research...help!

Hi all! I'm new here!

I'm Italian and I'm trying to find out birthplace (city of birth) of Caesar (Cesare) Mannelli, probably born in Italy on 7th July 1897 and probably death in Mayberry Slough, Antioch, Contra Costa, California.
I've found a passport request where he wrote "Forni", but seems to be an error/mistyping.

He went to USA soon after his birth, with his father Siro and his mother Luigia. He had three sisters: Elizabeth, Florence (both born in NY) and Elena (born in California).

His father was probably born in Florence, while his mother was probably Friulian

He went to the University of San Francisco.

I think I've checked every online source...

I've found:
- his passport request, where he wrote his birthdate and mistyped/false birthplace (7/7/1897 Forni, Italy) and says his father emigrated sailing on the (something like) "Giuseppe Verdi" (not active in those years) from Genova on or about July 1897 (his birthdate...). He also wrote he resided from 1897 to 1924 in New York and San Francisco and his father obtained naturalization from Jersey City, New Jersey court on 15th August 1900.
- various US Census (1900, 1910, 1920, 1930).

But I can't find any other birthplace.....

"Forni" is in the province of Udine (Friuli). Didn't you say his mother could have been "Friulian"?

Yes, his father Siro and his Friulian mother Luigia Dorigo probably married "per procura" (don't know in English...) at Forni di Sopra (UD), but they said there's no Cesare Mannelli in their birth records...

Yeah, those are the documents I have.
I thought I misunderstood the birthplace, but he wrote indeed "Forni".

I also located his manifest for June 30, 1924, was hoping that we could gather more clues.....but nada. His name was mispelled as
MAMELLI.

The surname DORIGO is specific to FORNI di SOPRA, but having a hard time pinpointing the MANNELLI.

Have you ever attempted to send for Siro's naturalization?
Or either birth record of the girls in New York?

I suppose you also checked with "Forni di Sotto". In the years boundaries could have been changed ....
By the way, "matrimonio per procura" is "marriage by proxy".

I'm going to check with Forni di Sotto soon. However, the more I search (4 months) the more I think that there's something wrong... but I can't realize what.

I have sent a private message to another researcher, help should arrive
soon. She is very good with records.

There are many ways to mistake Mannelli.... the Americans found it very hard to understand the Italian acccent, so many times the names can be spelled very badly!!!

I know they easily mispelled Italian names/surnames... I have found Manelli, Mannellin, Mamelli, Cerere...and what about Deri or Seri Mannelli....? Strange enough, Dorigo, probably the most difficult to understand, is always written correctly.
