What is the meaning of the word "Detto"

Post by favret »

I've come across the word "Detto" as part of the surname in quite a few birth records. e.g. Detto Peloi, Maria. Would Detto Peloi be the actual surname? :?:

I'm referring to the birth records from the 1800's in Fiume Veneto.

Thank you.

Detto is a legal phrase meant to convey the phrase "said to be" based upon oral dictation from one person to another. =Peter=

I suggest that you post the document to have a correct answer.
It is true, as Peter said, that Detto may mean "called, known as", however "Detto Peloi, Maria", alone, has no meaning, I need to see the full sentence.

I do not have a photocopy of the document, but part of the birth certificate is as follows:

[hr]

Uffiziale dello Stato Civile del Comune di Fiume ò comparso Del Col Basilio domiciliato in Proturlone, il quale mi ha dichiarato che alle ore anti meridiano undici e minuti nessuno, del tre del corrente mese, nella casa posta in Proturlone al numbero 39 da Mio Detto Bertolo Luigia é nato un bambino de sesso feminile che non mi presenta, a cui da il nome di Italia.

[hr]

I've come across this quite a few times.

Thanks.

I think it could be:
Uffiziale dello Stato Civile del Comune di Fiume ò comparso Del Col Basilio domiciliato in Proturlone, il quale mi ha dichiarato che alle ore anti meridiane undici e minuti nessuno, del tre del corrente mese, nella casa posta in Proturlone al numero 39 dal suddetto e da Bertolo Luigia é nato un bambino di sesso feminile che non mi presenta, a cui da il nome di Italia.
that means: from the above-mentioned

I'm not sure I understand.

I don't understand the relationship between "Mio" and DelCol.
Father's name is Del Col, Basilio
Mother's name is Bertolo, Luigia
Infant is Del Col, Italia

Sorry, but I must have my dunce cap on today.

My best guess is:

Uffiziale dello Stato Civile del Comune di Fiume è comparso Del Col Basilio domiciliato in Praturlone, il quale mi ha dichiarato che alle ore anti meridiano undici e minuti nessuno, del tre del corrente mese, nella casa posta in Praturlone al numbero 39 dal suddetto e da Bertolo Luigia é nata una bambino de sesso feminile che non mi presenta, a cui da il nome di Italia.

Once again we should see the document. I believe, and Luca believes, that the document reads: "dal suddetto" not "da mio detto".

I'm almost there. Thanks.

But why the "Mio" when Mio is a surname?
