Need help finding info on great grandparents FUSCO/ARPINO

Post by yasmincelesta »

Can anyone help me find information on my great grand parents benedetto Fusco and Michaelangela (nee Arpino) I know that my grandmotheer came from Sant' Elia Naples now part of Lazio. They had a few children beforwe they left Italy and brought some with them firstly to England (Bradford or Hull) I think and then on to Edinburgh. My grandfathers name was pasquale he was born in Bradford. I know that some of his elder siblings went to America, Michael who worked for the police department in New york or New jersey. I'd be happy for any information recieved. I have done a small amount of research myself here in Edinburgh with Birth certificates and death certificates. it was such a large family that my great grandmother had and she facinates me. My dream is to go to sant' Elia and travel her journey.

Yes as you can see my great grandmother called herself Maggie! I had found this myself . I know there was another male child with the equivalent name of george after netta who was antonia, her oldest children were probably married

Have you tried writing to Sant' Elia for your family's records?

So that members do not duplicate records already seen......perhaps you can tell us what records you have seen and what specifically you need.
In this way we can better direct your research.

Dont know how to do that, cant speak the language much to my sorrow. Wouldn't know the first thing on how to go about it. I have often wondered if there are any relatives still in the san'elia vacinity, because i know that my grandmother had at least one sister. Who cared and brought up one of her daughters in Italy when my grand mother left the daughter later came to Edinburgh I think her maried name was Gargaro.

Im sorry i'm not much help, but i am grateful

Yasmin,
I hope you get lots of responses!

Here’s another interactive letter (with instructions) for requesting civil records.

Apparently there are at least two Sant’ Elia’s in Lazio?
I’m not sure which is yours.

Didn't know that, I have googled Sant' Elia Fiumerapido! I've got at least 31 Arpinos, and 3 Fuscos. Would you think there is a special name for a record office or church for marriage, birth records etc..

Yes, this is where you would write for civil records:

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Sant'Elia Fiumerapido
Piazza Enrico Risi
03049 SANT'ELIA FIUMERAPIDO FR
ITALY

I'd use this form letter as a start

Here’s another option :D
Valarie

Italian records:
Your nearest Family History Center has records for Sant'Elia Fiumerapido on microfilm.
The cost is about $6 mo (rent), you’ll need to go to the center to order & view them.

Family History Library Catalog:

The town of Sant'Elia has no birth, marriage or death records before about 1860 or so. What they do have are reconstructed after WW2. The church has records but are not complete for all parishes. Records before 1865 are on microfilm as are many of the reconstructed records. If your ancestor was not in Italy after WW2 it is unlikely there will be civil records for them. My website has photos of the church and town.
