I don't know where to go with this now.
I have the names Antonio Stolo, Birth 1860 - Immigration / US possibly 1894 or 1912,
Rosa Stolo, Birth 1872 - Immigration / US 1902, Frank Stolo, Birth 1891 - Imigration /US 1902, James Stolo, Birth 1896 - Immigration / US 1902. Parents and 2 children respectively, all born in Italy. I have reason to believe this is southern Italy. Can you tell me how I may obtain the immigration records and possibly birth certificates etc.

I noticed (from the site Ancestry.com) that Antonio's son Frank died in California, I hope this is the right record:

Last name on the manifest was mispelled, possible it was Montano/Montanno and she was travelling wiht her child:

daugher, Di? Stola Maddalena age 3

They were coming from Cervino (perhaps is Cervino in Caserta Province - Campania region) joining their Husband/father Antonio Stola in Rome - Oneida - NY

Rosa were travelling also with her brother Cuomo... The line under Maddalena you can see Montano Cuomo, age 35, married coming from Acerra (Napoli Province, Campania region, just 9 miles from Cervino )

I think the correct spell fo the last name was Di Stola...

I found several Di Stola coming from cErvino on the Ellis Island site but none Stolo/Stola....

Yes ! Thank you........this is my family. We are originally from Rome, New York. I was stumped on the Ellis Island search because of the different spelling of name. The cemetery records in Rome, New York show Stolo (and of course that is the spelling of my mother's maiden name) and Montana. I can see the abbreviated spelling of "Lena" , and "Frank" from Francesco but is it typical to get "James" from Vincenzo? I do have the 1910 Census and it noted that they arrived (Rosa, Frank and James) in 1902. It shows Antonio Stolo (the father and husband) however, as arriving in 1894.

Should I confirm then that this is a match?

And......thank you for the di Stola spelling. Perhaps I should research the Ellis Island records this way?

I'm sure Rosa's 1902 arrival is correct for your family them both were going to join Antonio Stola in Rome...... and yes, James is the common "americanized" version of the first name Vincenzo.
I think the correct last name was Di Stola or Di Stora, you can see it's not a very common last name but is present in those areas...

please digit "begin with" Di Sto in Campania region and you'll see that Di Stola and Di Stora are both present in Cervino...

I don't know if you're familar with the Family History centers, but I noticed they microfilmed the civil records for Cervino...

The proper way of obtaining microfilm from a Family History Center
1. You go to http://www.familysearch.org/

2. Click on the tab on the top right called Library

3. Click on the words Family History Library Catalog

4. Click on the words Place Search and type in the town you are looking for. Then click the word search.

5. A list of the results will show up. (an example: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

6. Click on the link you are looking for such a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Vital Records. A new page will appear where it will show all the films for Vital Records

7. Click on the link you want such as Death Registries.

8. Click on View Film Notes and a list of the microfilm numbers will appear.

9. Click at the bottom of the page, For a printable copy, click hereand you will get a form to print out with all the film numbers.

10. Click print.



Ordering Microfilm

1. Now the FHC does not have all the microfilm in their possession.

2. You have to order the microfilm which takes 3-4 weeks for it to arrive.

3. It costs about $5.75 a roll for 30 days of viewing time.

4. If you need to renew the microfilm, it cost about $5.50 for another 60 days.

5. If you need to renew it after the 60 days, it will cost another $5.50 and the films can be kept on an indefinite bases.

6. Microfilm must be viewed at the FHC.

7. Copies are $0.35 a page.

Please forgive this amateur inquirer........! I believe I missed the post you are referring to. I did not realize another had come in and I had not had time to check the ItalGen website! I just read it and I too am at a loss for words as I was with the first 2 responses!
