i am not suggesting a conspiracy, rather questioning how accessible such records are to members of the general public

I spent half a day last Friday and made 6 phone calls to the Italian Ministry of Defence in Rome. At the switchboard they said there were no Fasullo and gave me the phone number of Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Fasulo. I found out he didn't have anything to do with Pows. I talked to other people and at the end I found Lieutenant Colonel (Ten. Col.)FARULLO who said was involved with a compensation project for Italian Pows in American hands. He doesn't have any list of Italian Pows in UK and he added that usually he addresses these requests to the International Red Cross in Geneva (And this is what I've been told for two years too). Now, I might have got in touch with the wrong people but after six phone calls I gave up. If there is someone, besides the Red Cross, who can give me lists or files or information on Italian pows in UK I'll be very interested to get in touch. I also have several friends who would like to know more.

Dear Ada thank you very much for the clarification. My source of information for Ten Col. Farullo (Not Fasullo) is very involved withItalian POWs inthe USA and she advised that the only remaining information for Italian POWs in the USA National Archives are one line entries in a listing from March 31,1945 which are now on a CD . I can find out more about the POW CD if you wish. Again thank you very much!! =Peter=

Peter, you gave me the same information for Fasullo. My father lived in italy at the time he was in WWII, captured in Africa and then held prisoner in the UK. I wanted to try and find out what camp he was held in the UK. Hoping this would lead me to some informaton about the child he had. Reading the posting on this site it seems that Fasullo would not have the information I am looking for. I know he was give an medal when released. Would there be anywhere that this would have been recorded?

Thank you.

Peter,
if the CD is about POWs held in USA, thank you very much but I'm not interested as my father was captured in Lybia, held in South Africa and later in UK.
Ten. Col. Farullo is a very plesant person. He said he knew that his name was spelt the wrong way on an American website and laughed about it as the word "fasullo", besides being a surname, means bogus and added: "I would not sound much reliable, would I?".

Maria,
my father, like all WWII veterans, was given a medal, looking more like a cross but it didn't mean anything particular just that he had participated in WWII.
As I said before, if you don't have other sources and if you have the name of the Prisoner of War and you are a direct relative, you can ask the International Red Cross in Geneva for an Attestation like this

example of attestation It will take three months or more and it's free of charge.

They hold in their archives many names of Pows and places were they were held as the IRC was in charge of supervising the camps. Also when a soldier was caught prisoner, the Red Cross was informing his family. I requested this for my father and for several friends of mine, we all received an Attestation stating place of capture, dates and camps were they lived and when/where moved. This is the link for the request

Request form

I hope this can be of some help.

Dear Ada thanks for the update. Apparently Ten. Col. Farullo is only involved with POWS who were interned inthe USA. I was not sure of the extent of his involvement with Italian POWs and I was waiting for one of the Key people inthe POW movement inthe USA (involves Italian and German POWs as well as Italian citizens interned in Canada during WW11) to come to NY in April. The woman is a Utah genealogist who travels 3 to 4 times a year and exclusively researches in Southern Italian cities, towns and villages as well as Sicily became involved with POWS and I am in contact with her peripherally. I will talk to her in April and see what is happening and keep you posted since Universities and Colleges inthe Midwest and West USA are also involved. =Peter=

Ada, thank you so very much. This information is very helpful. Like your father, my father was captured in the same place. Is there an address for the Red Cross, so I can write them. Thank you for posting a copy of the form. This website is the best!
