Do you know if the Red Cross can provide a general list of POWs?

Re: POWs in Lincolnshire, UK
you are welcome!
Andrea,
I doubt the Red Cross can provide a general list of POWs. Italian POWs in WWII were, if I'm not wrong, about 500,000. Anyway, you can try and see if they can. This is the link with address, e-mail, ect.
ICRC.
Good luck!
Ada

Hi Andrea - I've gone through a similar experience and have had better luck in locating information. Get in touch if you are still interested and want to hear more. I'd be interested in what information you might have about the Pingley Farm camp & the people involved.
Good Luck,
matt

from this page http://www.icrc.org/web/eng/siteeng0.ns ... ves-290506 I contacted Marie Mériaux Allemann and received 12 photocopied pages of very useful information about my grandfather during WWII, including time as a prisoner. Marie's email address is mmeriaux@icrc.org.
I was quite pessimistic but now I have names, addresses of other family members, Prisoner of War number and some roll call details from different campes...all invaluable.
Good luck and let me know if I can help,
matt

Andrea,
this is what I emailed to ICRC...perhaps you can format your details in a similar way, depending in what information you have.
Hope this helps,

Hello Mr Daniel Palmieri,
I obtained your details from the ICRC Archives contact details web page and I wondering if you can either help me directly or make suggestions on my family story & tracing relatives.
Basically my story is as follows:-
My paternal grandfather, Francesco Stefanelli, was (probably) held at Pingley Camp, Lincolnshire as a prisoner of war during 1944/5. During this time he had a relationship with my paternal Grandmother, Margaret Doughty (nee Chambers) of Holme Lane, Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire and as a result my father Stephen Doughty was born on 14 April 1945.
After the war finished Francesco was repatriated to Italy and we never heard from him again. I know that he wanted to take my paternal Grandmother back with him (along with my father & two siblings) but due to various pressures that never happened. I have only just started looking into this story because we only learnt of this part of our family history during the last year or so. And now as my father is now sixty five, I'd like to find our more and if possible explain what happened next to Francesco.
We did receive a letter from the Red Cross stating that Francesco died 10 July 2001 but they declined to pass on any Italian family details as a matter of policy. Understandable but a bit of a dead end for us. We also understand that Francesco was a jeweller in Naples before the war but after that our details stop.
Can you explain what information the ICRC might hold (military, domestic etc) and how I might go about learning more about what happened to my ancestor after World War II ?
Any help will be gratefully received,
Matt Doughty

Re: POWs in Lincolnshire, UK
Hi Matt
Thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure what records are held by the ICRC. From my research with the National Archives I understand that all records on Italian POWs were transferred to the Ministry of Defence in Italy. I think that you then need to apply for info from the MOD, proving kinship. i will pass on further info to you.
With your grandfather's name, i think your chances of locating info are good. I contaced the museum, local newspapers, the Roman catholic church asking what records were held in their archives but didn't have much luck. There appear to be many websites providing access for people researching Italian relatives but I've not used them as I don't even have a name!!
I dig out addresses and anything else I have that may help but from what I understand most info is with the Mod
