Hi and THANKS again for all the great facts you folks have given me. I have at least two sources now for each fact and all are related to the correct Peter except those not in CA but in the USA. Once he got there, he stayed put ! I read over and over to not accept anything I couldn't find two sources for, so I try to do that. Have further found all I could so far on all siblings ( not much on the girls, but several things for John and Paul, who are, indeed , his brothers.)
Now I have two new questions 1. what does WFT mean...didn't get that one in my reading about how to find roots and 2. How do I ow procede with finding Laurenzo,Theresa,Giuseppe, and his wife Christina Lenzani in Italy......in other words, how do I find Italian records ? I am on Ancestry if that will help. Thanks again for beiing so helpful. The genealogy community is surely giving ! Let me know if I can help any of you from here....and , yes, I live on an island.......Islandgal

Hi again folks
Am working on wildfire and attaching all the siblings from the manifests you helped with but can't find one thing : what does WFT mean in many of the listings. I've looked for it in all my reading, and haven't found it yet . If anyone finds anything new, please do let me know and thanks again. Islandgal

WFT usually means the data was from another genealogy program

Oh ! Thanks ,vj! That was wigging me out !You genealogy folks are so helpful. It's great. A gal on ancestry has been helping me sort the info on the other side of our family and I have that back to the person(Michael Ferry b1817) who came over from Ireland, but can't yet find him on a ship or in Ireland because the name is so common. If anyone has any ideas on that, feel free to jump in ! I really want to learn how to do this so I can eventually help my cousins do their extended families where they differ from mine. Thanks again , all. Islandgal

My Great grandfather was Paul Mecchi from Lucca, his mother was Teressa Tofanelli born 1841 Florence Toscana Italy.

I am really interested to find out the history of the mecchi surname.

Wow, glad to meet you ! My husband is the grandson of Peter Mecchi & Rose Luporini. His father was Kenneth I. Mecchi. I am assuming you live in California. We are in South Carolina, but several other Mecchi first cousins live in CA. still. I would love to compare notes with you and talk more directly. Maybe we could meet for chat here or elsewhere. Let me know if you are willing to do that and/or how you would like to proceed getting acquainted. Your tree shows the generations I have on the Mecchi line, but I am writing to Italy for more soon ( my son is arriving this week and he speaks some Italian so I will pick his brain when translating to Italian to write.) I would be glad to share what I get back.I have Peter's lineage to today if that will help you. Just excited to find another Mecchi line, so I hope you will keep in touch.

Mecchi is a variation of the base surname MENICO which has many variations, alterations and derivations widely distributed thruout Italy and the variation Mecchi Meco and Mecco are seen in Toscana and central Italy. Such surnames are derived from Domenico and Michele for the Micco versions. But the base surname Menico is listed inthe Italian surname Dictionary as being Italian in origin. =Peter=

Thanks, Peter. That is most of what I had. I will find the rest tonight and post it. By the way, Peter, I am following the Luporini line on angelfire, too, ( as you suggested) but not meeting with much success....only finding what little I already had from Ancestry, but thanks for the link, which I will use for other roadblocks I have encountered on other lines to try to progress.
