Termine / Candiotta Family

Post by lilacresfarm »

Trying to confirm family ties in the New Orleans area for Salvatore Termine and Sarah Candiotta (candiota). I know they were married there in 1907 or 1908 but I can't find any records. Does anyone have any info on them?

Hello!
We’d be happy to help.
Just to make sure we’re looking for the correct folks, do any of these records belong to your family? (married abt age 18?)
It may help to find census records if we could also look for their children’s names & birth dates.
Thanks

Yes, this is the correct family. Thank you for the quick response.
Children of Salvatore (Sam) Termine and Sarah Candiotta:
Salvatore b. 9-1-1909
Victor b. 11-1-1916
Joseph b. 5-26-1918
Catherine b. 11-11-1920
Victoria b. 11-25-1912
Josephine 2-1-1911
I believe Salvatore, Victoria and Josephine were born in the New Orleans area and the rest of the children in the Los Angeles, CA area.

Thank you again

Thank you for the update!

These may lead to other records.
It appears that Sarah may have been born in Italy too

I only have what is available online from Ellis Island. Salvatore Termine arrived in America May 6, 1906 on the IL piemonte from Palermo. My great aunt had at one time his registration card from Ellis Island but is unable to find it now, she is in her 80's and other family members throughout the years may have taken it.
Thank you so much for this information

Jaime
Here's an intriguing 1900 census, especially if Salvatore and Sarah followed traditional naming patterns with their children.
The 1896 immigration date matches the 1920 census information for Sarah.

What do you think?

Thank you again so much.
I've been searching for over a week for some of this!
I see there are 2 Jenny's listed on the 1900 census, hum? Will have to do some more searching on that.
Yes, the hand writing is awful and its been fun finding all the different ways my families last names were spelled throughout the years.
My line is through Sam, Sam and Sarah's 1st born.

These won’t help with the handwriting, but if you don’t already have a set, they’re helpful for reading the columns on the census forms

Oh my!
You're very welcome :D .
So far no luck on rest of the Candiotta folks.
Do you know if Vita's (Vittoria?) maiden name was Troncale or Truncali or something similar?
She and her children may have been traveling under her maiden name.
It would have been usual for her to travel under her maiden name, but normally the children would have been listed under their father's suname.
