Palazzo from corleone

Post by cmorrow »

My ggfather and his siblings were all sent to american, alone at young ages. I've been told that this was b/c the mafia had such a strong influence in Sicily. They all came in the late 1800's early 1900's. I'm wondering why would their parents send them away? I also heard that their parents were killed by the mafia. ONe ohter thing, when my ggfather arived in New York in 1900 (his name was Domenico Palazzo) the ship record says that they were staying with a NIck Giacoma. Could this be a mafia person? :?:

You might want to look over the passenger lists and check to see if others from the same town are listed next to your relatives. I'm not sure what ages the children were but if they were young they probably were looked after by someone listed near them on the passenger list. In my research by doing this i have found relatives that I would not have known about because of the difference of surname. The relation Nick Giacoma was to your family should be listed near his name when they ask who they are going to stay with. I hope that this info helps

Mr Veneziano this poster is seeking information on the Mafia and reasdons why children are sent to the USA from Sicily, Italy and your response has nothing to do with what he wants which, incidentally has nothing to do with genealogy but rather sociology. So please read what the poster is inquiring about closely and you will see what I am talking about and why your resp;onse is inappropriate to the question. Peter
