Searching Surnames: LONGIOTTI and SBROCCHI

Post by peach519 »

Hello all,

I'm new to this site but can see that there is a wealth of information and knowledge.

I'm looking for my great grandparents origin. Both arrived at Ellis Island (as told by my grandmother) but not at the same time. I was told that my g-gfather (Alexandro Longiotti : b 1888) was in the us and sent for a wife (Mary Sbrocchi : b 1900) I was told that my grandmother that Alexandro was from near the Adriatic Sea. I have found census records of them but I can't find Mary's arrival (Found a Maria) My grandmother says that Mary's middle name was her mother's maiden name (Donato). This is all coming from my 86 yr young grandmother (Josephine Longiotti Wilson b: 1922) she was the first of 10 children.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need any additional information, and I'll try to dig it up.

Thanks!!!

Well, first off, Maria is how you say Mary in Italian, so chances are the Maria you found was Mary, and when she came here she changed it to Americanize it. Anything else you wanna know?
My Italian surnames:

Caserta: Maietta, Rossano, Tessitore, Negro, Peluso, Musone

Campobasso: D'Andrea, Barile

Catanzaro: Fiorelli/Fiorillo, Romito

Hi,
Squigy is correct, your great-grandmother first name in italian was Maria...
If her first arrival manifest was on May 26, 1921 she was born in Roseto Valfortore Foggia Province - Apulia Region :

Hi, Valarie

Great find on Antonia's manifest.

Peach519,

Found the following on Lanciotti.

"LANCILLOTTI, LANCIOTTI: From Lancellotti; it derives from the name of Lancelot, knight of the Round Table, name diffused in 13th century."
From Italy World Club Surnames

There is also someone doing research on the Lanciotti/Longiotti/Langiotti family although the page hasn't been updated since 2003. You might still want to contact him; email address on the bottom of the page.

Check the following site out on Roseto Valfortore, your great granmother's town. Lots of information and pix. And
The newest member is John Longiotti, your grandmother's brother.

It's really funny that you mentioned that Biff. I just signed up and found two of my great uncles there. Before he died, my great uncle Frank Longiotti spent some time there looking for his ancestors. And a few minutes ago I got off the phone with my grandmother, she is so excited about the information everyone has given me.

Thank you again!

Hi Peach,

I have to ask a question. Do you have the death certificate of Alessandro Lanciotti? His death certificate would list his parents' names.

Alessandro Lanciotti
born: November 11, 1888 in Corropoli, Italy
died: November 10, 1966 in Crawford, Pennsylvania.

If you are asking about the same Alessandro Lanciotti mentioned above. He was born on November 11, 1888 in Corropoli, Italy - Birth Act #8 - he was born on Via del Colle at House #148. His parents were Giuseppe Lanciotti and Natalina Sgariglia.

I am connected to this family but on the side of Pasquale Lanciotti, who is the brother of Giuseppe (father of Alessandro - b. 1888).

The family is as follows:

1. Giuseppe Lanciotti married Felicia Acciarri

2. Emidio Lanciotti - b. April 22, 1819 in Cupra Marittima, Italy
married Elisabetta Alesiani
3. Maria Felicia Lanciotti – b. February 5, 1848 in Cupra Marittima, Italy
Married: Serafino Vagnoni

3. Giuseppe Lanciotti – b. March 1, 1850 in Cupra Marittima, Italy
Married: Natalina Sgariglia
4. Luigi Lanciotti – b. June 11, 1886 in Corropoli, Italy
4. Alessandro Lanciotti – b. January 11, 1888 in Corropoli, Italy
4. Guglielmo Lanciotti – b. November 17, 1889 in Corropoli, Italy
4. Nazzareno Lanciotti – b. may 26, 1894 in Corropoli, Italy

3. Pasquale Lanciotti – b. February 27, 1853
Married: Tommasa Sgariglia
4. Vincenzo Lanciotti – b. May 23, 1888 in Corropoli, Italy
4. Agostino Lanciotti – b. April 2, 1890 in Corropoli, Italy
4. Emidio Bernardo Lanciotti – b. December 2, 1892 in Corropoli, Italy
4. Elisabetta Lanciotti – b. 1895

Also, per the information that Biff found from the post of Coy Longiotti, I was at the Lanciotti Family Reunion in August 2009 in Greensville, PA. There were over 300 people at this Reunion. The surname has various spellings such as Lanciotti, Langiotti, Longiotti, etc. The correct spelling is Lanciotti.

You can email me at wheretheacornfell@yahoo.com. I am trying to piece together all the siblings before the next reunion.

And as usual, I have to say, Valarie (VJ) and Biff, you two are so amazing!!!!

Smile for me!:)
