Peter or Albert Galli

Post by drea101 »

I'm looking for info on my great grandfather Albert Galli and his brother Peter. Albert claimed that he and peter stowed away on a ship from Italy in early 1900's. They eventually ended up in Nevada and parted ways. It is rumored that Peter worked on ranches in the Elko area but we can't find him, and Albert refused to talk about his family. "Let the dead be dead", he always said. When pestered he told my grandmother that his mothers name was Louisa. He claimed to be from "the heel of the boot" in Italy. Any idea's where to look for our family? Anyone have information on these two?
Thanks in advance,
Andrea

There is a Peter Galli in Elko, Montello, Nevada as a cook in 1920...Listed in the household of Ramsey Mason who is apparently runs a resturant. It said he arrived in 1903...and the Pietro Galli that arrived in 1903 was from Varese....which is the north of Italy.

Did Albert end up in Colorado? If so, could try and find out more...Listed with a wife named Teresa and a child named Albert>

Let us know.........

Thanks for the reply. Albert worked ranches in Garrison, UT for awhile, then somehow got a social security number and ran mail for the postal service. He and his wife eventually ended up in Hinckley, UT with their son, my grandpa.
Albert never saw Peter after they split up, but heard through the grapevine that Pete was in prison in Nevada. We obtained the prison records along with court documents, and they said that Peter spent a few years in prison for murder, and then was paroled. While he was on parole he wrote letters monthly to his parole officer stating he was working on a ranch in Elko, NV. A short time later he was pardoned when it was decided he was acting in self-defense.
We contacted two Peter Galli's in NV and neither one matched up with the story or having a brother, Albert.
I remember seeing the Peter you mentioned in the 1920 census, but I can't seem to find him again after that...
Can you think of any thing else to check?
Thanks so much!

There are two Peter Galli's in the 1910 census...and one is in prison in Ormby, Nevada.

Now, what was the name of Albert's wife and the name of your father? There are a number of Albert's in Nevada, Colorado and Utah. Let me have the other names and maybe we can nail some other things down...like date of arrival.

In the 1931 Reno newspaper is an advertizement referencing the sale of an estate in Dec. 1931. The estate was owned by a Peter Galli...originally called Pietro Galli in the ad. The place is Washoe county were Reno is located. Do you think this could apply. I could not find a Peter Galli listed there in 1930, but there were some Peters born Italy of that age...maybe he changed his last name?

Anyway...let me know the other and we will see. Also, Peter has an idea worth following through on....maybe it could yield results.
