Santo Stefano

Post by Luca04 »

Does anyone know of a town called Santo Stefano in the Piemonte region? My Great grandparents on my mothers side came from there. I'm looking for film or an address to write for birth records.
Thank you

Hi There,

First let me explain that there isn’t any microfilm for the Piedmont Area. However, you can write to the town itself for records.

Can you please elaborate which Santo Stefano in Piedmont you are looking for? There are 3 Santo Stefano’s in the Cuneo Province.

There is Santo Stefano, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy. I’m still looking for the address for you.

There is Santo Stefano, Belbo, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy
Comune di SANTO STEFANO BELBO
Piazza Umberto I 1 - SANTO STEFANO BELBO (CN) - Italy
Tel. (+39)0141844187 - Fax (+39)0141844231
EMail: comune@santostefanobelbo.it

There is Santo Stefano Roero, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy
Comune di SANTO STEFANO ROERO
Via Capoluogo 23 - SANTO STEFANO ROERO (CN) - Italy
Tel. (+39)017390112 - Fax (+39)017390198

I hope this is of some help.

Hello Trish,
WOW!!!! Thank you very much!!!!! I wasnt aware that there were 3 of them. This is a great start! I dont have alot of information to start with, but this will help.

All i know is that the 4 great grandparents on my mothers side were from there. At least thats what I had been told. I do have their names and an approximate date of arrival to the US. That would be from what my mother had told me. Fortunately I had written much of this information down before my mother pased away.

I will go through this information and maybe i can narrow it down a bit and i can call on you for further help.

Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

58 and botyh Dear Luca there are only TWO (2) Santo Stefasno in Piemonte. One Santo Stefano is Santo Stefano Roero, postale 12040 and the other is Santo Stefano Belbo, postale 120 and both are in the province of Cuneo.

Disregard what trish told you and concentrate on locating the town of origin or you can send a form letter to the two Ufficvio di Stato Civil and request the same birth certificate for one of your grandparents providing you havbe his full name or her full name and year of birth. If you do not have their year of birth then try to locate their entry into the USA which will give you their town of origin and their year of birth. Peter

Peter,

There are 3 Santo Stefano's in the Cuneo Region. Even if you had the sense to look it up on a map you would know this. There is a Santo Stefano Southwest of the town of Cuneo and the other two are North to Northeast of Cuneo.

It's just ashame that you are so threatened by my presence. I at least give people information and not just tell them to go look at the Italian Phone Book.

Also, this group is open to everyone and EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO POST REPLIES. Not just you!

Thank you Trish.

I did a search for Santo Stefano and also came up with three in the region. You are correct. There is one that is near the town of Cervasca which is southwest of Cuneo on Sp23, the Roero one is west of a town called Canale and the Belbo one is east of Alba.

My notes do not indicate which one my family comes from, they just say Santo Stefano on the back of old pictures and the like. However, I was told that one set came from near Cuneo and the other set from near Canale, not that far from Torino. So it looks like they may be from Roero and from the one near Cuneo. And I have one of those death notices of my great grandmothers sister, that you get from a funeral home, that says on the bottom of the card, parrocchia di Canale. So I'm assuming that that is the church affiliated with the Parrish of Canale.

Is it possible that the Santo Stefano next to Cuneo is so small that it uses Cervasca or Cuneo as a mailing address?

I will put together a letter. I do have dates of birth, at least I hope they are correct. Is there any particular letter format, that you know of, that they may like better than another when inquiries are made?

Also, do you know how I can find a ships manifest. I believe, my great grandfather first came here in 1895, then went back to Italy around 1904, got married and came back with his wife, to the Scranton, Nanticoke Pa area. I'd be curious to see if I can get any information from that.

Thanks for your help.
Luca

Peter,
As a new member, I have been going through many of the postings to get a feel for the type of interaction that takes place here. I've been looking at other members opinions and guidance, and to hopefully gain some research tips. I have noticed that on many of your responses to inquiries or even responses to other people responding to inquiries, your responses seem to be full of glib remarks, flippant answers, and you seem to project a total disregard of others to even post an opinion! It seems that many of your responses are of a condescending nature. You tell people to disregard others suggestions, you berate others as far as what you think they know, and you don't seem to respect anyone else's answers or guidance except yours.

I believe, you may have a lot of knowledge of this subject, but you must also allow others to speak and be heard. There are many different opinions and spins to every genealogy story. Others may have very helpful hints and know things that you do not know that could open doors to many people who have hit a dead end. The condescending nature of some of your responses may turn a lot of people off, thereby defeating the whole purpose of an 'open' forum to express thoughts and ideas on genealogical research. I thought an open forum is just that... OPEN to all, to offer insight, opinions and guidance without recrimination... and open forum should be open for ALL to speak, and for ALL to be heard, not just the chosen few....or the one!

Dear AH (ad hominem) This forum has no place for mediocrity. it is for serious genealogy. It is expected that posters learn their own genealogy with merely direction from the volunteer genealogists and only come to the trough when they are unable to proceed due to laziness or short gaps which require clarification. This forum is not designed to teach genealogy and history. It is not designed to be "folksy" . it is designed for intelligent people to communicate facts and information and nothing else. When someone wants to conduct their own geneaalogy we are here to direct them so that they can meet their research objectives. Peter

As for the third Santo Stefano, this is most likely a "frazione" of another town which means it is more a neighborhood or hamlet attached to another town and consequently would not have any civil records but be dependent upon the town itself for municipal services. Peter

Dear Luca,

If you write to a town in Italy, make sure it's in Italian. I do have a form letter that I can send you via your personal email and all you have to do is fill in the blanks. Or send me the information via my personal email and I can fill in the blanks and just send you the Word Doc.

Also, don't forget to get International Postal Coupons that you get at the Post Office. They are about $1.75 each and put a few in the envelope. They use these coupons for return postage. Also, regular US Postage for Italy is about $.80.

The other thing is send me some names and dates of the people who settled in PA. I'm from PA and might be able to look up some things for you.

Have a good one.

Dear Witcheyes you know better than to send him form letters to his personal mail so that you can dfo business with him and charge him money. There are several form letters that he can send in thru wsebsites. You ought to be ashamed of youirself trying to get this young man to write to you personally and you to him. it doesn';t take much to see your transparent attempts. Luca should question your motives. Dear Peter,

I must be your worst nightmare! You don’t know what else to say or do to upset me. I think your intentions are to try to make me leave the group, and that’s not going to happen. It’s a shame that you prove over and over again how you are an ignorant and nasty little man and threatened by someone that might know more than you. I guess because I am a woman and that threatens you the most. What a pity you are!

I also don't have to explain to you or to anyone anything. I am just trying to help a fellow person with their genealogy especially since all you know how to do is send them to the Italian Phone Book. These people are asking for help on how to start their research. I see it every day at the FHC for I am a volunteer there too. I explain to them the information on Ellis Island, how to access Census on Ancestry.com, how to write for Naturalization records, and how to conduct their genealogy using the microfilm for LDS. You never mention any of that kind of information to anyone. Not only don’t you help them properly, but you belittle them to boot. No wonder no one wants to answer you back.

Also, I emailed several people in this group privately so that I don’t have to put up with your bull. As other people in this forum stated, this group is open to everyone and everyone can express their own opinion or give their own advice. Seriously Peter, you don’t own the group, nor are you the moderator, you are a nobody; but you are a small minded person amongst people who really need help discovering their roots.

Why don’t you grow up and stop writing these childish letter to me. I guess I’m your worst nightmare. But like the old saying, “I’ll be back!â€Â

Hello Trish,
Thank you for the info. i do appreciate someone who is willing to help, and you have been very helpful.

Peter,
I really dont know what your problem is. I wonder how many people you have turned off by your constant barbs and berating. I guess you want to have no one on this site, that way you can be the only one here and you can then entertain yourself by answering yourself.
