David since you expressed a desire to learn more about your and Italian genealogy in one fell swoop, may I suggest that you obtain the book (buy/borrow) Italian Genealogical Records by Trafford R. Cole. its an easy read fully illustrated and documented down to Latin phraseology in older/ancient documents. You will come to fully understand in readable English what is totally involved. We are always here for the brick walls!
