Laura,

That 1920 Census is not my Grandpa. I know by all accounts it should be but it isn't him. It is one of his cousins, not him. My grandpa didn't show up in the census until 1930. I had that confirmed by a relative.

The Ellis Island records, Marriage, and the WWI register is all him.

I don't know who the Uncle would be he is joining in Boston and I have wrote to some people there for help.

I was told by some relatives that my grandpa and some of his brothers went to St Louis to work on the railroad. I am not sure what company they worked for but I will try and find out.

You can see the confusion I have. They all came here in 1910 and I loose all track of them until they all show up in the 1930 Census.

Thanks for your help..

Hi Lois :D !

I was going to help Laura look for your 1920 Militello census, but I'm a bit confused. Maybe you could help?

Do you know who the Tony & Rosela Bosco (and 4 sons) are on the confirmed 1930 census?
They're living in the same house as your grandparents.

On the 1920 census Tony and Rosa (Rosela?) Bosco (and 6 sons) are living with a James and Mary Militello

Thanks! Valarie

Lois, as you suggested
Valarie

Best guess at what may have happened which could explain the differences between the 1920 and 1930 census records for James & Mary/Rose Militello apparently living with the same Bosco family.

Cousins James/Vincenzo Miltiello married sisters Mary and Rosa Bosco

In 1920 it's cousin James and wife Mary Bosco living with Mary & Rosa's parents
In 1930 it's your grandparents James and Rosa living with Mary & Rosa's parents

Does that sound possible?

Thank you! Valarie

Valerie you guessed right!!

My grandpa and his cousin both married into the Bosco family, And that leads to alot of confusion.. I get them crossed up all the time!!

And the census is confusing because my Grandpa had 7 brothers and 1 sister and they all used the same family names over and over.

The Bosco's that are listed are my grandmother's brothers and 1 sister and her parents. I haven't started on that side of the family yet but I am taking notes along the way.

I am going to ask some family members and see of I can find out what railroad they worked for in St Louis. And to see if I can locate them in Missouri at some point.

Just when I think I got something figured out I get thrown a curve. But that is all part of challenge!!

Thanks for your help!

Lois, thank you so much for the update :D .
Laura really found the critical records.
Since your grandparents got married in Detroit, do you suppose that is where they were in 1920?
Do you know where/when son Santo was born?
Thanks! Valarie

Valerie,

Santo was born in Detroit in 1919 so they must have been there. Grandpa and his 3 brothers just aren't counted in any census until 1930.
I was trying to track the movements of them. I know 3 went to Stlouis and my grandpa also went later on before he was married.

I am new to all this I have never done any Genealogy before. So I am grateful for all the help.

I had no idea that Grandpa and his brothers moved around worked on a railroad and on a boat. I knew they came to this country but I didn't know when...so all this is great.

I plan to share the history with my local Genealogy Society as well when it complete. I think this may take quite a while to get done...but I won't give up.

I am going to ask a few relatives and see what else I can find out.

Talk to you later,
Lois M.

Hey Lois

Another brother of Vincenzo/James
You're right, plenty of sons named Santo and daughters named Rose (after their grandparents)
Also quite a few Militello children born in Missouri
Thought this one had Rose and son Santo, but it's hard to tell.

It does have mother Rose born abt 1860, widow, immig abt 1910

Valerie,

Thanks for the Census and the Bay County records. I will check the Michigan records out. I am not sure if my Grandpa ever became a citizen or not.

The census I have no idea who that is...lol but it does seem to have my grandpa brother Paul and his wife living there. I will have to do some more checking on that.

You know it seems like I find some of the best info on my family when the last name is spelled wrong..lol. I am not kidding. I have found so many different ways it has been spelled over the years it isn't funny.

Sorry it took so long for the reply, I have been sick the last few days with a nasty sinus/cold thingy.

Thanks again for your help,

Look at these arrival manifests:

Vincenzo Militello, January 24, 1910
his name is crossed out, he didn't travel....
He stated he was leaving in Italy his mother Trentacoste Rosalia :!:

So I believe the January 27, 1910 arrival manifest is the right one for Vincenzo:

I kept finding Vincenzo's probable siblings leaving 'no one' in Terrasini after 1910.

Thanks to you both Laura and Valerie!

I appreciate all your help.

I am still feeling under the weather...and I can't get the work done I need too on this.

I was told that they left no one behind when they came to this country. So that would be all of them then in 1910.

I think that Santo (GGgrandpa) and a Pasquale both passed before they came here. I think the Pasquale listed is not the first one cause the b-dates don't make sense. And it states that Rose (GGrandma) was a widow...

I need to sit down and do a head count on the family and add the names and dates to everything and see what's missing.

I don't know how far back in the family I can get. Eyetalgal sent me alot of stuff including my GGGranparents names but most of that info is now in Italy and I don't speak the language.

Talk to you guys later!

Hello,

I know it has been awhile but I have been contacting relatives for info. I was told I had a cousin that had alot of stuff on the Bosco side of the family. He got in touch and we are now starting to trade info. However, with some of the stuff he has told me I am now confused.

He said that my Grandmother Rose Bosco was born in Lacalle, Algeria not Lacroix and that the place was called "the cross" in French. Everything that I have is from Lacroix so now what?? I surfed for Lacalle and didn't come up with much

He is going to send me some more stuff via USPS so hopefully it will answer my questions.

I see alot of people visiting this post. To any relatives that may be lurking go ahead and post don't be chicken the people here are great!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Lois M.
