Italian archives

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Shockingly enough, the funeral home my family used for him back in 1918 is still up and running!! What a pleasant surprise that they are still around. I just have to call and see if they can tell me anything.

Let me just add that I called this place and got an archaic nasty woman on the phone. She kept telling me she doesnt like doing this and trying to persuade me to look elsewhere. She was telling me over and over I talk to fast and she keeps dropping her glasses...ARRGH! Then she keeps adding that they usually charge for this. So I keep saying Ill pay and she adds "no, no thats ok" All along battling with this woman and shes telling me she probably wont have it because of a flood but she will check. She said to call her in the morning and hangs up on me. Anyone have this experience? Then she adds" Good luck calling the church. They hate doing this as much as me!"
What gives?

LOL! This is NOT how I wanted to start my morning. Not only did I have to repeat everything over and over as she yelled me but then I get hung up on. The whole conversation was her telling me I talk to fast, she hated doing this, and she cant find her glasses  Unbelievable, another dead end. Im almost afraid to call this woman back in the morning. She had to be at least 100! Shes probably the one who filled out the death certificate in 1918  I dont feel like getting torn up verbally again tomorrow morning

Alicia

PS She totally crushed my hopes of calling the church telling me they hate doing it, they wont do it and if they tell me the records are in archives they are lying so they dont have to do it!

Don't let her bother you. Options:
1. have someone else call and get the info (spouse, friend, dog, cat, anyone)
2. look on craigslist for that area to see if you can hire someone cheaply, like $10/hr to go there and handle in person
3. Send request in the mail, politely
4. go there yourself in person and handle

you have many options. I wouldn't let someone sway your emotions so much. Look on the bright side, if she is that old, she might not be in that position much longer. lol. That is option 5. wait out her replacement :)

Lol! Too funny! Well for one she told me there was a flood and a lot of records are gone. Im thinking it was one of his records then. The address on his death certificate is different from their address today. She also said they didnt take much info back then from relatives and being his wife didnt speak English it was probably limited. She claims whats on the death certificate is the same as they would have.

As far as the church she sarcastically said to offer them money and they will do it! Hey, money talks.

Heres the update on death records that were recommended I look into. Unfortunately its another dead end (no pun intended!)

New Jersey's death certificate says born in "Italy". No town

The funeral parlor said they filled out that death certificate and put it was "Italy" so they wouldnt have any additional information. They are saying what I see on the death certificate is the same info the funeral parlor has.

I contacted Holy Name cemetery who said they receive info from the funeral parlor, church or family. On their records it says the same. Born in Italy, no town.

Being his wife didnt speak any English Im assuming thats why in all these situations no one listed a town :(
