Ok, will use the "Amend" approach, if needed.priere wrote:You can't change a record unless you are the person in question or a spouse. You can AMEND a record of a direct relation though so long as you have all proper supporting documents. <----- dead
It really is a matter of what you are telling the people in vital records. To 'change' and to 'amend' are different.

If I "amend" the Greenwich records, how do I address the Italian documents?
My grandfather's last name is spelt differently on his birth record and his Italian passport issued in 1894.

With regards to the Greenwich Vital Records, the Town employee was
familiar with my surname.
She claimed (I dont doubt her, however) that my surname is 1 of the 2 most commonly "misspelled" names in the Town records to this day.
Each generation of cousins intermingle the surname with either an "o" or an "a" as the last letter.

There is a process for naturalization records that have information incorrect (name misspelling/birth date/etc) as they cannot be modified which is to get a positive/negative letter from your comune in Italy verifying that there was no one else born with the name/date specified.Donald66 wrote:If I "amend" the Greenwich records, how do I address the Italian documents?

This should work with the passport and birth record to verify that there was no one else born in the comune with the misspelled name. Template here: http://italiancitizenship.freeforums.or ... t1042.html
