Thankyou so much guys!

This information is amazing and, to an extent, I'm speachless. Hopefully there will be as much luck with Antonio (my great-grandfather), but as my distant cousins and I are tracking down Alfonso's history too, this proves to be just fantastic!

Dan, we're all happy to help.
Teamwork, the members of the board here, you & your cousins
make the difference.
Antonio is turning out to be a little more elusive than Alfonso, tho.
We'll see...

Thanks VJ, and thanks Trish.

I was just speaking to my cousin and she says that her aunt and other relatives say that Antonio's, Alfonso's and Concetta's mother was called Madeline Olive, but there is no offical backing, only word-of-mouth.

Also, A/A/C's father is definately Felice De Sio.

I tried searching for both of them, but no luck, only Felice's name on A/A's manifests.

Also, another BIG family mystery is Amalia, Antonio's first wife. no one knows what happened to her, who she was or even her maiden name. Its all very mysterious...

Dan, couple of questions?

Having difficulty locating Antonio DESIO b 1888 in any US records.

Reread Antonio DESIO's Manifest 9 Jun 1909

going to see
brother in law Giuseppe D'AMORE (corrected) 2041 Clark St Goldsmith, (Potter), PA
destination Johnstown (Cambria) PA

- does D'AMORE (corrected) fit anywhere?
- could D'AMORE (corrected) be Concetta's husband (Antonio's sister)?
- or Amalia's maiden name (Antonio's 1st wife)?

also traveling with
- Alfonso MINGO? going to see uncle Giuseppe D'AMORE (corrected)
- Vincenzo COSEINO? (edit: CASCINO name will appear in a later post) going to see uncle Giuseppe D'AMORE (corrected)

Another question
- how long was Antonio DESIO in US after 1909?

If any of the above names connect perhaps they could lead to Antonio,
or perhaps he left the US before he made it into any records (census, WWI Draft)?

Well...

Antonio returned to Italy in 1912, this is according to my father who was told by Antonio that on his return voyage, his ship was called to aid the sinking Titanic (April 14/15th). Now, my father doesn't know what the ship was called, but I think it was the Carpathia, as it went from New York to Genoa to Naples (as far as I know, however, I could be wrong), and the Carpathia did collect survivours from the ship. Finding the correct ship may give us answers through manifests etc.

In regards to D'AURORA, Mingo and Coscino - no idea! I don't even know if Giuseppe was connected to Antonio through Amalia or Concetta, but apparently she was born 1908/9 , no known husband, died at the age of 18/19; and Amalia is a whole new mystery in herself!

Dan,
Great story!
Carpathia is correct:
*NOTE: The Carpathia was eastbound, 3 days out of New York, when diverted to rescue the survivors of the Titanic in the early morning hours of 15 April 1912. These passengers were delivered to New York 18 April 1912, but the manifest is incorrectly filed as arriving 18 June 1912. The title page of the manifest has written "Arr Apr 18/1912" which is struck through, and "June 18th 1912" is written below that.

Trish's advice to write both towns and to use the Family History Center
should yield great results on Antonio since he was only in the US for 3 yrs.
Let us know how you do!

Could you post the census?
The originals would be great!

You guys are good!! Nice research done here!!

Sure! I will link what I can... providing I am not thrown off the computer here... just preparing dinner as well... so you will see documents later this evening.

I am having a heck of a time trying to view any manifest on my end... this has been going on for days now...

There are mentions of an Antonio DeSio on these manifests... not sure how they relate... new to this post... so I just may be "on the wrong boat"...

Antonio's name on manifest

First Name: Adelina (also with brother Francesco)
Last Name: De Sio
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Pugliano
Date of Arrival: Jul 14, 1902
Age at Arrival: 19 Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Palatia
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Manifest Line Number: 0012

These 2 are off to NY to join brother Antonio De Sio

mfjp

P.S. really nice to see teamwork here!!

Happy D'Amore's Day to all of you!! :P

Amazing!
Talk about teamwork.
Although the manifest may not be our D'Amore, and apparently everyone ended up in PA...
A search for mfjp's D'AMORE on ancestry turned up both Alphonso and Antonio under the name TRESEIA (DESIO)! I can't imagine finding them under that name without mfjp re-reading the manifest & getting the name right!
This thread has been amazing from Nuccia to Trish to mfjp. Thank you for the experience, Valarie

Dan it would be great if you could look these up at a
Family History Center where they have Ancestry.com
You can appreciate from the original pages what a diverse
neighborhood they lived in & maybe recognize some
relatives living near by?

"TRESEIA" imagine that!! What a valuable piece of info you found, Valarie. Joseph D'Amore had a big family... and then to add 5 more boarders to his home... these people were simply amazing...
