- Angela FERRARA, 31
last residence T Passeri, no one in Italy, going to Lockport, NY
joining husband Giuseppe COPPOLA at 403 West Ave, Locksport (Lockport), NY,
born in Torre Passeri
- son COPPOLA Giovanni, 2 (joining father)
Hey vj, I was talking with my grandfather, his mother's name was Maria and her sister was Angela. Maria was Giuseppe Coppola's husband and Giovanni's mother. Not Angela. Maria lived in Lockport, NY and Angela lived in Stubenville, OH. I think you mixed up on your posts, but I looked at the manifest for Angela, and according to that, she was Giovanni's mother and Giuseppe's wife, but my grandfather said his mother's name was Maria and it says so on her gravestone too. So I don't how the manifest could have gotten messed up, but I think it is. Is there any way that this possible? I just wanted to clear things up. Thanks.

ac,
Perhaps she used her first name on her manifest?
Preferred to use her 'middle' name on everything else?
This would not be uncommon...
Check Giuseppe's manifest (below)
- he stated wife was 'Angela Maria'

SS Patria 19 Sep 1920 from Naples to NY
Giuseppe COPPOLA
31, married, last residence Torre Dei Passeri,
nearest relative wife FERRARI Angela Maria in Torre Dei Passeri,
final destination Lochoport (Lockport, NY)
passage paid by Italian gov't,
in US 1913-1915 in NY,
joining cousin Constantino Nicola at 421 Ningarist (Niagara?) St, Lockport, NY,
born in Torre Dei Passe(ri)

OK? vj

Oh. I never knew that people used to do that. Was that common for both men and women or just women to do? And if so, wouldn't her gravestone say her first name "Angela"? Because it says "Maria". I also know that my grandfather's aunt lived in Ohio and her name was Angela so I still don't know. I'll check with my grandfather and tell him what you told me. Thanks.

ac, please let us know what your grandfather thinks about all of this, thanks! vj

and ...
Perhaps looking at Maria's sister's records may help?
What was her husband's name in Ohio?

Does this manifest look like any member of the family?

Annantonia FERRARA
18 yrs old, single
mother Giovanna in Torre Passeri
joining father Francesco Ferrara at 156 North 6th St, Steubenville, OH
born in Torre Passeri

(may be a relation also line 11 Fiore Ferrara)

Maria's husband was Giuseppe Coppola who lived in Lockport, NY not Ohio. My grandfather says that he had an Aunt Angela in Ohio. I just saw him a couple hours ago and I told him about the middle name usage thing and he said his mother's name could have been Angela then, but that doesn't explain the Angela in Ohio if, according to the manifest, Angela was in Lockport. I also have never heard of Annatonia Ferrara. I'll ask my grandfather if he has heard of her.
By the way, my grandparents love that I'm doing this for them!

Hello Acman!
I know you have not posted in quite some time. However,
I am wondering If I can get you to look at my posts of Nellie DeMeo on this site.
I am thinking someone did not spell the name correctly.
Is it possible our Maria Coppola was part of your line?
If so you may still have some relations in CT.

I will finally be getting a death cert with in a week to confirm a bit more on this.

Thanks and Best Regards Rich

Hi Rich.

Yes it has been a while since I last posted. I just started college and I have been very busy. I think there could be a relation with the Maria Coppola you are referring to here, but I am not aware of any relatives in Schenectady, NY. Maria is a pretty common name, so it could be a distant relative.
