Hi,

"First Name: Giuseppe (born 1865)
Last Name: Colletta
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Altavilla, Italy
Date of Arrival: Apr 23, 1921
Age at Arrival: 56y Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Dante Alighieri
Port of Departure: Napoli
Manifest Line Number: 0010"

If this is the correct manifest for your Joseph Collette, you may be interested in this link, since he claims to be a U.S. citizen in 1921. The other manifest that Maria provided states, "Joseph Colletta
Naturalization paper Chicago April 2, 1902."

http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcook/Lookups ... ations.htm

Also, the LDS Church (Mormans) has filmed the vital records (1821-1910 for the town of Altavilla, Italy. Here is a link to the available films.

Link to locate your nearest LDS-Family History Center.

And a link explaining the process of obtaining the films from your FHC.

Hope this helps.

Another possible manifest?

Name: Giuseppe Colette
Arrival Date: 15 Apr 1889
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1862
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Le Havre, France
Destination: United States of America
Place of Origin: Italy
Ship Name: La Champagne
Port of Arrival: New York
Line: 33
Microfilm Serial: M237
Microfilm Roll: 531
List Number: 422B
Port Arrival State: New York
Port Arrival Country: United States

As for Frank being illeg., if you know when & where he died, his death certificate may provide town of birth....Could he have applied for social security?.....SS application iis another place that can provide birth town. Naturalization record & church records are good sources, too.

What document do you have that says they were from Lentini?

Sometimes I wonder whether Lentini was the correct place...

If Frank was illegitimate
... don't you think he would have his mother's maiden name instead of Collett_ ?

I spent some time last night looking into things.. and can't seem to get a good lead from the info you provided...... something just doesn't seem right...

One of the best leads we have here is the census that vj located......

We need to look at the naming patterns of Franks children... like Eugenio, Enrico, Cecilia... etc....

This Francesco (born about 1891) named his one of his children... Enrico... maybe an uncle... maybe his brother... I don't know...

So, looked for any Enrico Colletti and found this one... off to New Orleans!!

Uncle mentioned is Antonio Camillo

First Name: Enrico (born 1877+-)
Last Name: Colletti
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Castelvoccia (Castleveccia)
Date of Arrival: Nov 24, 1899
Age at Arrival: 22 Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Massilia
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0008

http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 4026080008&
------------------------------------------

Here’s an Enrico Colletta who will be joining his brother-in-law ???enio...

(I was hoping Eugenio....)

http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 2537024270

First Name: Enrico (born about 1853+-)
Last Name: Colletta
Ethnicity: Italian South
Last Place of Residence: Casteldaccid (Castleveccia)
Date of Arrival: Jun 14, 1904
Age at Arrival: 51 Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Napolitan Prince
Port of Departure: Palermo
Manifest Line Number: 0024

I had also posted a manifest of a Cecilia Lo Cascio (who travels with the Colletta's) earlier on... Francesco named his daughter Cecilia as well...

Please review all the info that has been posted for you....

I've posted some manifests for you (earlier on) and would like your opinions... or at least one...

Have you looked for Louisiana census records... since you thought they first settled there?

Maria,
I don't have anything that shows he was from lentini. I just found that on Familysearch.org using my grandfathers name. Frank Edward Colette. My mother said that the Census that VJ found was correct.
they (Frank and Theresa ) had another son named Frank (not listed) he died very young.
