Nuccia...I bought the Rosetta Stone language program, both sets. I'm still on lesson one of Level One... and being over the hill is not helping. I love your little sign at the bottom of your posts.

BTW, I have found so many relatives with the help onthis site ! I just located another great aunt who went to Canada...

Hi Marlene! Maybe I should consider getting that program!

Glad you like my sign. A friend made it up for me and I attached it to my signature using imageshack. Gotta have some fun sometime an since its my goal to go to Italy this year, its my "reminder" to keep focused on that goal!

Since I live in Ontario, let me know if I can help you in anyway.

Ciao Marlene! Ciao Nuccia! io sono Antonio.Mi sono registrato da poco in questo forum, è stato per caso! Cercavo notizie sui miei parenti emigrati negli U.S.A. intorno al 1908 alcuni a Pittburg e altri a San Josè in California.

Ciao Antonio!

We speak little Italian here. Maybe Livio or one of the others here who are fluent in Italian would be kind enough to translate for us.

Parliamo piccolo italiano qui. Forse Livio o uno degli altri qui chi sono fluenti in italiano sarebbe abbastanza gentile tradurre per noi.

(OK..so I used an electronic translator for much of this so I know there are some errors. Anyone reading this, please, feel free to correct it. It would be a great learning experience for all of us here.)

Hello Nuccia.

Now its my turn to try and force myself to write in English. I will try. I studied a bit in school and my grandfather who lived in the United States spoke it very well and I would listen and often talk to him in English. I am glad you have answered me...I see you are quite efficient in finding records.

Antonio..this is fun! I feel like I have my own private Italian lesson. But we must remember that this is Marlenes post and we are taking over. I will start a New Topic called Antonio Translations and we can write to each other there. :D

Antonio. che divertimento! Ritengo come ho mia propria lezione italiana riservata. Ma dobbiamo ricordarci che questo è alberino di Marlenes e stiamo assumendo la direzione di. Inizierò un nuovo soggetto denominato traduzioni del Antonio e possiamo scrivere l'un l'altro là. :

Ciao!
Yes, I am related to all the names.
Carmela Rubino, b. 1882, is my grandmother, she married Giuseppe Rinella, b. 1877. They left for the US in 1901.

Giuseppe had a brother Salvatore Rinella 1873 and came to the US in abt 1890. He married Augustina Barone. We don't have much information on the Rinella's. Some say the boys were adopted by the Rinella's and originally D'Anna, but no solid information on this.

Carmela's mother was Josephine DiMatteo, she married Giuseppe Rubino. Josephine's other children:
Giuseppe Rubino married Josephine Canciamilla (first cousins)
Girolama (Mamie) Rubino married Salvatore Arena
Mary May Rubino married I. Allono
Salvatora Rubino married Innocenzo Alario.

Josephine's sisters are Caterina DiMatteo Canciamilla, Carmela DiMatteo,
Salvatora DiMatteo Gattuccio.

They all came to the US (San Francisco, San Jose and PA and New York) except Carmela DiMatteo and her father Giuseppe Rubino.

Thank you for any help, Marlene

I have found a connection to my Maria Campagna ! I was contacted by her G-G-great granddaughter who is a Spalla-she has been searching her families history. Luciano Spalla married (arranged) Maria and they had nine children.

We are currently putting the pieces together but still can't find any original Campagna's- Giuseppe abt 1857 or his wife Giuseppa Rinella Campagna abt 1866. I did see a SS death cert for a Giuseppa but since it doesn't mention a maiden name and I can't find any census on them ...I'm lost.
Help!
Thanks much, Marlene
