Thank you again, wonderful information. My family has known of Lucchetti's in the area of San Francisco for years, but we have not known how we were related. Yesterday I found an article about John Baptiste Lucchetti, who committed suicide in a park. He had a note in his pocket, which listed details of his birth and relatives. The note said he was born on 22 Dec 1843 in Liyure, Italy. It said he had two nephews, Dr. Vittorio Lucchetti and Dr. Albert Lucchetti, residing at 916 Kearney Street, San Francisco.

Victor and Albert were Francesco's sons. Victor's medical practice was at 916 Kearney Street.

I have never heard of this man before. I'm going to look for him. If you or anyone sees information tying him to our family, I will appreciate it very much.

John Lucchetti Uses Gun in Tragedy, Friends are Told of Plans

“If I die today, don’t forget to come to my funeral,” John Baptiste Lucchetti told his friend, Joe Fanucci, local merchant, and shortly after committed suicide in the City Hall Park yesterday by discharging a .44 calibre pitol, of the building(?) type, in his mouth. The bullet proceeded upward, crushing through his brain, fracturing his skull, and remained imbedded under the skin. Death was instantaneous.

Lucchetti had been sitting on a bench under a tree. Very few passers-by noticed him or heard the report of the pistol. Powder marks on his hands indicated that he held the gun in his right hand and covered his mouth with the left. Police stated that he had been a habitué of the park for years.

The night before he committed the act, Lucchetti remarked to Fanucci that “tomorrow would be the last day.” Fanucci stated that he had known the man for years, and although he had a bank account of a few thousand dollars and relatives in San Francisco, he knew of no reason for the act aside from ill health, of which Lucchetti recently complained.

Lucchetti had prepared statistics on an envelope pertaining to his birth, which were found in his coat pocket.

It showed he was born in Liyure, Italy, December 22, 1843. He has two nephews, Dr. Vittorio Lucchetti and Dr. Albert Lucchetti, residing at 916 Kearney Street, San Francisco.

According to Fanucci, Lucchetti had lived here over 40 years, and until 10 years ago had worked in a saloon in this city. Since then he has not worked, and spent most of his time during the day about the streets and in City Hall Park.

Coronoer N.C. Holte was summoned and took charge of the body. And inquest was set for Monday.

But, I was wondering one thing... Francesco and all the other Lucchetti brothers were born in Castiglione Chiavarese, it was their father Giovanni Battista Lucchetti (born on around 1803) to be born in Varese Ligure hamlet Trenzanasca...

Wouldn't he have written that his relatives were grandsons, rather than nephews?

I have always heard that Francesco was the first to come over. I've never heard that his father came over. I'll call a cousin today, who is one of Francesco's grandchildren, and see if he has any idea.

I'm almost certain this will come as a surprise to him, since we've had discussions about genealogy and he has never mentioned this person.
