If you are intersted in more information about your Gaeta, Italy ancestors, I have a lot of information about them, mostly from 1780 to 1860. They are on my website at:

Hello,
I just joined ItalianGenealogy.com and really don't know where to begin! I found you as a V.I.P. and thought it a good first move to send an email to you - hope you don't mind.
My grandmother's oldest brother was the only sibling born in Italy and, until last night, I hadn't a clue from where in Italy my great grandparents left. Though my grandmother's brother- WILLIAM BERTOLINI - was not a shining star on the family tree, I was able to find that he was born in Stella Cilento in September 1899. As the family recollects, he was in his mother's arms for most of the trip to NY so it must have been within a year from his birth that his parents, Nicola Bertolini and Josephine Ferrazzano Bertolini left Italy.
Another family story (?) is that Josephine's father, Peter Ferrazzano, was a wealthy man who married (or impregnated and then married) the servant girl Louisa. For this he was disowned from the family. Peter and Louisa Ferrazano then were financially weak and possibly received money and property from the Bertolini family in exchange for giving their daughter Josephine to be the bride of Nicola Bertolini.
Josephine, however, had at least one brother, Jim, and I do not know how that fits in.
Peter Ferrazzano, the family tells, was 33 years old when he died - my g. grandmother Josephine used to say that her father died at the same age as Jesus was when He died. I am only guessing that Peter died in Italy.
I've been told that Josephine remarried and lived in Paterson, NJ. My grandmother visited there in abt 1918 or 1919 so that's the timeframe but
I can't seem to find a census that helps me.
Josephine's death certificate states that her mother's name was Larro but I have found that death certificates are not always a great source of accurate data...Larrow may have even been the name of her second husband, I don't know.
So that's about what I have of the ancestor side...I've only been doing this for about 2 1/2 months and I am hooked!
I sure do hope that you can either help me or direct me!
Sincereely,
Marilyn Hayes

I wanted to comment because the travel record found by nuccia (quoted below) is for my Great Grand Uncle. Reading this post, I do not believe this was a lead for the original poster (probably in no small part because "Angelo" was really Tomasso's daughter, "Angela").

I am still curious about the possible Traniello/Gaeta connection. I have confirmed that my GGF and his brother originated from Gaeta. My GGF, Agustino Traniello, immigrated in 1892. Both Traniello brothers located in the NY area. One family adopted "Tranello" and the other "Tranella" variations of the surname.

I have found Traniello's that immigrated to the MA area, but have never connected them to my family line. As an aside, my family new little for certain about this family, but one cousin had heard Gaeta (which I validated) and also mentioned MA. He was correct on the first, so maybe his MA lead has some merit.

Given the last name, origination point and time frame, perhaps there is a connection worth exploring. I would welcome the opportunity to compare notes.

Does this sound like a possible match?
EireItaliaDonna wrote:I would look into the second Angelo simply because he arrived after 1904 (if you back track from his arrival of May 1906 1 yr and 10 months) you should get to abt Aug 1904.

Besides, I don't think the first Angelo was going to Mass. What was Angelo's wife's first name? (sorry if I missed it above).

Angelo Traniello's wife was Frances Rose Scipione Traniello.

What a great website- my family surnames are Fantasia and Simeone- i tried to see if we're connected on your tree but doesn't seem to be per my records. My challenge is finding records from Gaeta from 1888 to 1896. Did you have any luck? Thank you again.
