My cousin Joe said...
Pasquale was coming to visit his brother-in-law Vito Sapienza. Vito's wife's name was Rosaria. This is very close to Rosa. Maybe the manifest should have said his sister-in-law Rosa, not his wife Rosa.

Hi Rita,

I think what you should do at this point is to order the films from the LDS church. First you need to locate a Family History Center (FHC) near you, here is the link.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

After you locate a center then use this link (I have already gotten you to BelPasso section, and order the appropriate films to view. Nati (birth), Matrimoni (marriage) and Morti (death). You should be able to find both of Giuseppe's marriage documents, all of his children's births and death records of any children that may have died and his parents, first wife's parents and Lucia's parents that died.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... ato+civile++

Write down the film numbers that you think you will need and order them from the FHC near you. It will take about 2 to 4 weeks to get them and the cost is about $3.75 per film.

Let us know if you need any help with this.

Hi, Tiger.... I sent you a PM, now I'm thinking posting the manifests about Rose Sapienza's various arrivals:

March 27, 1912: Francesco Venasco (1882) and his wife Rosa Sapienza (1887) first arrival.... (note that both of them declared that it's was the first time they were in USA)... leaving the father in law Sapienza Giuseppe in Belpasso. Going to the brother Filippo Venasco... Don't understand the place...

Page 2:
[img=http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/7813 ... hs2.th.jpg]

April 5, 1921: Francesco Venasco returning in new York leaving his wife ROSA SAPIENZA in Italy, last residence Belpasso.... He was in USA from 1912 to 1919 in New Castle. He was going to meet his brother in law Vito Sapienza in 27 Jones Street, New york (it matches with Vito's 1920 Census)

page 2
[img=http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/4420/v ... hm1.th.jpg]

August 26, 1927: Sapienza Rosa arrival with two daughter Glory and Lucy, last residence Belpasso, leaving his son Antonino Venasco in Italy, going to her husband Francesco Venasco in New Castle (Glory and Lucy were born in USA in 1916 and 1918)

page 2:

.... And I found another arrival (October 26, 1912) about Pasquale SERAFICA leaving in Belpasso his wife Rosa Sapienza and going to the brothe Vito Sapienza.... 8O 8O 8O ... This is strange... Maybe there was another Rosa Sapienza?? Or this Rosa could be an namesake?

I let my cousin know about Rose Sapienza and this is what he said...

As you suggested I checked out the first page of the manifest for Pasquale Serafica and found the words "wife Sapienza Rosa". I don't quite know what to make of this. It is in the column marked "Name of nearest relative in the country where alien came from". This is interesting since Rosa was not in Italy at this time - she had returned to the US on March 27, 1912. Pasquale's arrival was Oct 26, 1912. Do you think (considering Pasquale's age) that there might have been another Rosa Sapienza from Giuseppe's first marriage?? Doesn't really make sense. It's a real mystery to me.Now knows that it should have been sister in law Rosaria not wife Rosa.

Here's another interesting piece of information. I looked up Francesco Venasco, arriving on March 27, 1912. He is listed as married, going to visit his brother Filippo Venasco (just as was Rosa on the same trip). He lists his closest relative as father-in-law Giuseppe Sapienza in Italy. So at this time Frank Venasco was already married to Rosa!!!!! Therefore, it's impossible that Pasquale could list her as his wife on Oct 26, 1912. There must be a mistake. Pasquale must have been married to another Sapienza sister if he says he was visiting his brother-in-law Vito Sapienza.

As far as Aunt Rose's marriage. It seems to me that she must have gotten married sometime after 1909 when she arrived. We think she married in the US. Apparently she returned to Italy and then came back in 1912. The manifest says she was going to her "brother" Fillipo Venasco. I assume it means her brother-in-law??? So she was already married at this time to Frank. In fact she is listed as married on the immigration certificate. It would be great if we could confirm where and when she married Frank.

Would there be more information on Angelo like this? I am trying to contact a Family History Center (LDS) to ask about the films. :) ...Rita

Well, one of Giuseppe's sons in Italy was that Angelo named in the 1929 arrival manifest for Vito and family.

Hi Rita,

The documents will be in Italian but the FHC's have a booklet with italian words pertaining to the documents you'll be looking at. It gives you the italian word and the english translation. It wouldn't hurt to purchase an italian dictionary also.

Save the documents that pertain to your family on a CD (that you have to buy from the FHC) and there is a translation forum on this site where you can upload your document and people will help you. After a few times at the center looking at films you'll be a pro!

Good luck and let us know how it goes or if you have any questions.

Hey Everyone...I am having trouble at the Family History Center. :( They can't seem to burn any CD for me to be able to upload it to this site. Why do they have CD's then? Any suggestions on how to get this information to this site? When I go in on Tuesday I hope to find more information. I will try to go everyday to find information to print out. I really need help for translating and helping me find them. The LDS Family History Center will be closed from the 17th till 1st. Open on Jan 2nd. Then I'll have till Jan 28th with this 1st film that came in. The woman yesterday said it is in Latin not Italian. These are records from the Church ~ marriage/baptisms. Your help is greatly appreciated.
