Tucciarone surname
Re: Tucciarone surname
Oh, sure! Duh. I don't know what I was thinking. Have to keep reminding myself of the Italian naming convention, as I said. Geesh.
I know you haven't given up, I'm still looking too. She is a hard one to find. I'm running out of search criteria to try. Right now I'm looking up all name variations I can find and reading the manifest for anyone who visited the Tucciarone or Lavalla family. You're way ahead of me though.

Re: Tucciarone surname
I still need some help finding Tucciarone family members in both 1903 Immigration and 1910 Census records:
Pasqualina Lavalla b.abt 1866, Minturno, Caserta, IT.
(married to Davide Tucciarone, b.abt 1866, Minturno, Caserta, IT)
Joseph Tucciarone b.abt 1894, Minturno, Caserta, IT.
Pasqualina and Joseph (head of household) can be found in the 1930 census living in Rochester, Beaver Co, PA. Both show 1903 as the immigration date, although I have checked other years also. I have found Catherine, Joseph's widow, and children in 1930. Pasqualina is listed as Lena in 1920, living with son Joseph. Davide died in 1918.
Is it possible she went back to Italy after the death of her husband? If so, shouldn't there be a record of her return? She and Davide are both buried in St. Cecelia's in Rochester, PA, along with Joseph's wife, Catherine. Joseph died in a VA hospital so he is buried elsewhere, but I have that location on his VA medical information.
I have tried many combinations for searches, including first name and birth date only, Italian/American name variations, everyone by a certain birth year, immigrants from Minturno in 1903, etc... These two have proven very difficult to find.
I don't mind the work. Any suggestions of what else to try? (Sorry this is so long)

Re: Tucciarone surname
Correction: Pasqualina and Joseph can be found in 1920 census. By 1930, Joseph had died.

Re: Tucciarone surname
I think this is not her. This Rosa was born in 1857, which is too old. Also, the children names do not match what I have: Nicola, Maria, Tommaso, and Luigi.
Thanks - I'm still looking!

Re: Tucciarone surname
I am still stuck on this immigration record. If anyone could help me find Pasqualina Lavalle/Lavalla, I would be eternally grateful. 1920 census lists her immigration date as 1903. I have searched everywhere and cannot find a match for her in Ellis Island. Her year of birth is approx. 1865. She married Davide Tucciarone, possibly in Minturno, Italy. I have no proof, but I believe Davide was from Minturno from his immigration record, and he was married when he arrived.
I've been searching for this family for a very long time. I'm trying to get help at the LDS church, but no luck yet.
Thanks! I appreciate anything at all.

Re: Tucciarone surname
I just started doing some casual research on my grandmother's family and I am amazed to find these posts. First, I was born and grew up in Rochester, PA. My mother went to Catholic school and was married in St. Cecilia's. My maternal grandmother was Catherine Tucciarone Signore. She was born in Scauri, Italy (a small town near Minturno) in approx. 1907. She lived in Scauri until approx. 1927 when she emigrated to Rochester with my grandfather Joseph Signore. Joseph was born in 1904 in Ambler, PA but lived in Rochester his whole life. His parents were Marion and Caroline Signore from Minturno. My grandfather had gone back to Minturno in 1926 to sell land for his parents when he met my grandmother and brought her back to Rochester in 1927. They were married in Scauri and again in Rochester. They lived there until their deaths in 1994 and 2001.
What is strange to me is that there were Tucciarones from Minturno living in East Rochester (I saw the 1930 census that someone posted - my mom recognized all the names on there except the Tucciarones - she didn't know them - she was born in 1944) and my grandmother didn't know them/or never mentioned them. My family is a very old established family in that area (Beaver County) and we would have known Tucciarones if they had been related to or even from the same place as my grandmother. This leads me to believe that they didn't live there for long - or changed their name to Tooch (as someone suggested). In any case, this is very interesting and I wish you the best in your search. Perhaps I can be a help to you in tracing back the Tucciarones to a similar family tree in Italy. I'm currently trying to find out more information on my grandmother's family that she left behind in 1927. I know that her mother and father (Raymond and Rose Tucciarone) left with her brother, Natale, and sisters, Pacifica, Asunti, Caroline to go to Buenos Aires in the 30s or 40s. If anyone has any more infomration on that branch of the Tucciarone family, please let me know. Thank you.

Re: Tucciarone surname
I'm not sure what Rose's surname was and unfortunately I'm not familiar with the surname LaValla/LaValle.
Interestingly, however, I went to Scauri in 2000 because my husband and I were travelling in Europe. First, Scauri is a really small fishing/resort town that is primarily a vacation spot for Romans (something like a Jersey shore for those of us in the East) and when we were there in September it was basically deserted. We stayed for just two nights in a hotel on the beach and on our first day we stopped into one of the only open lidos for an ice cream. Because I attempted to order something in my terrible Italian the woman behind the counter called over another woman who was there to help translate. The woman who translated was Australian and she asked me why I was there - as not many Americans end up in Scauri for a visit. I told her that I was curious to see where my grandmother had grown up (we were very close and she told me lots of stories about her life there). Then the woman asked what my grandmother's name was. When I said Catherine Tucciarone she turned white and told me that her mother was Concetta Tucciarone. We pieced together the history and we determined that Concetta's father (I can't remember his first name right now) was Raymond's brother, which made Concetta and Catherine (my grandmother) first cousins. This woman (Alma) then walked me all over town showing me where they all lived, where they went to school and where my grandmother was baptized. I have pictures of all of this. It turns out that Alma lived there for several years of her life before she and her parents daughter moved to Sydney in the late 1940s.
Alma remembered stories about my grandmother's family (although didn't remember my grandmother) and told me that Rose was a very wealthy, refined woman who had gone to school at the convent, sewed and painted. She married Raymond, however, who ran a brick factory (which I also have a picture of - it was turned in to a Nazi base during the war however) and lived a less glamorous life than maybe she had hoped. Thats all I know about her though.
And just to tie up this story - Alma and her daughter and their family came to my wedding in 2001! They got to meet all of my family and it was pretty amazing. We are still in close contact and are trying to formally tie up all of the branches in the family tree. Thats why I'm trying to figure out more about Raymond and his brother and the Tucciarones from Scauri. There is someone in New Jersey that I met through the Australian family (who is the daughter of Concetta's sister) who is very in to genealogy and is trying to fill in the family tree and is having trouble linking my grandmother and her side of the family to Concetta's side of the family. Although when I met Alma in Scauri we shared stories from what we knew and things (like the brick factory and the names of my grandmother's siblings) all matched up. It was actually one of the most amazing things thats ever happened to me. I'd just like to formalize it all if thats possible.

Here's a link to a wonderful site... the Australian archives... I was able to receive a precious photo of my Grandfather who was a POW ...
just search as a guest...
But for some reason, the site is slow today... but worth going back to later.
http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html
If any of the Tucciarones there were POW and are of interest, I can maybe help you look for a photo.
What a great story. It's nice to have Alma and her family in your life. Your wedding day must have been extra special.
What timing though eh? Your attempt to order something in Italian was quite the success story. The woman translator turns out to be family

Re: Tucciarone surname
Thank you so much for this website! I was able to search the phone book and think that I might have found my grandmother's sisters in Minturno -- she had maybe two sisters who didn't go to Argentina. I found a Maria Grazia Tucciarone and Assunta Tucciarone there - both were the names of my grandmother's sisters. What is the best way to find out information on them so that I can see if they'd be about the right age - from the right branch of the family. Or should I just write letters?
Re: Tucciarone surname
Wow. I just found the most amazing family history on the web. Its the history of The Andrew Tucciarone family from 1800-1993 - 64 pages! I haven't read it all yet but there are references to Minturno, so we know we're in the right area.

That website is great... maps, info, ... use it all the time...
Re: Andrew's Family... that is a great find.... I just read a few pages myself... I'll see if there are any Tucciarone ship records from "Tre Cipole".... nicely written too...
Do you have a relative who can speak Italian? A phone call could be interesting... just remember the time difference... here (Toronto) ... Italy is 7 hours ahead.. Letters (including copies of photos) would be nice too...
sue1anne where are you? She's probably out of town... as she's replied to all postings ASAP... and am still looking for Pasqualina LaValle... she's a tough one to find...

Re: Tucciarone surname
Here I am, here I am!! Sorry, been really hectic here - hurt my back, my 19 year old just found out she's 7 weeks pregnant, and no she's decided to get married Sept 17th! Eeek! Luckily she wants to handle all the planning without me... long story.
Anyway! I've seen Andrew Tucciarone's website. It's wonderful.
None of these names sound familiar. Davide Tucciarone's parents were Fillipo Tucciarone and Francis Dell'Anno. Other than that I don't know any relatives in Italy. I really need to find the manifests so I can get more information on the Tucciarone and Lavalla/e families. I have asked the COI list for help too.
Hopefully we can make a connection!
