An 1862 law allowed honorably discharged Army veterans of any war to petition for naturalization

An 1894 law extended the same no-previous-declaration privilege to honorably discharged
5-year veterans of the Navy or Marine Corps.
Over 192,000 aliens were naturalized between May 9, 1918, and June 30, 1919, under an act of
May 9, 1918, that allowed aliens serving in the U.S. armed forces during "the present war" to
file a petition for naturalization without making a declaration of intent or proving 5 years' residence.
Laws enacted in 1919, 1926, 1940, and 1952 continued various preferential treatment provisions for veterans.â€

Re: Defeudis
It was Domenic Lamanuzzi, my grandmother thought it was his cousin, but if it was brother in law, must've been his sister Giulias' husband, she died young, but I'm not sure how young, I haven't found any info on her yet. My grandmother was looking for info to send in to ellis island so his name could be on the wall, and I just relayed the info you found for me that shows he came through Boston instead!

Re: Defeudis
What a wonderful idea!
There's still a few days left to include his
name for the Summer of '08
Wall of Honor Ellis Island
Is my ancestor eligible for inclusion on the Wall of Honor?
The American Immigrant Wall of Honor is open to all entries.
Included are names representing all ethnicities, all years of arrival, all points of entry,
and all modes of travel.
Names represent families and individuals, both living and deceased.
The common element that ties these names together is the celebration of American immigration.

Re: Defeudis
I might have some information as the names sound familiar. I think my grandmothers parents were Defuedis, from Besceglie. The daughter, Amelia, married Dominico Lamanuzzi, lived in Upton, MA. My mother, Guilia lamanuzzi had a cousin that side of the family I think named Ann(a) who had the married name Connors. Lived in Worcester.
quote="meticulousmobile"]OK, I'm giving up on the Bottini side for a while. Can anybody find any documentation on my bisnonno, Pantaleo Defeudis? He was born around 1893 in Bisceglie, moved to Manfredonia around age 2. Not sure when he emigrated, but he married Antonia (Anna) Laposta in 1924, and she was born Aug 19, 1902 in NYC. They lived the rest of their lives in Worcester, MA. I believe he died March 1985. Their children were Julia, Alice (Allessandra), and Anna. I'm told his parents' names were Francesco Defeudis and Giulia DiPilato. I can't really find any good info on him. Thank you![/quote]

Ciao, il mio nome è Raffaella e sono nipote di Giulia De Feudis di Manfredonia. Vorrei sapere se c'è una qualche parentela fra noi.
