Lucap,

I found the Prizzi marriage record, and I am hoping it will provide additional info for Benedetta.
Joseph Scianni wed Benedetta, but I'd like to know what the English translation is after the documention mentions Benedetta. I know she is SPURIA, but wat is the exact translation after Rosalia Amato? Does it explain the relationship? DId Benedetta live with them?

Many thanks!

Benedetta was a "spuria" (spurious). This means that she was an illegitimate daughter, but in the record it's not written the parent's name. It says:

last line of page 1
... et Benedictam spuriam nutritam a
first line of page 2:
jug(alibus) Josepho Leone et Rosalia Amato...

...e Benedetta, spuria, allevata (=raised) dai coniugi Giuseppe Leone e Rosalia Amato...
The words after Rosalia Amato are: eorumque mutuo consensu habito = e avuto il loro reciproco consenso = and had their mutual consensus

Thank you.
Is this correct in English?
Antonium is the son of Vincent and the living Anna Maria Manta (of/nee/maiden is FAZIO).

Benedictam Maida is the daughter of Joseph and the living Josepha (of/nee/maiden=Guaneiri).

I don't understand the role of Rodosti and Vincent et Fazio? Priest, or god parents? Can u let me know? Grazie.

It would be Antonio in Italian and Anthony in English.

Benedicta (feminine form of Benedict).

Josepha would be Giuseppa in Italian and Josephine in English

Antonino Radosti and Vincentio Fazio were witnesses (testibus)

This is a marriage record so no godparents!

Grazie! Maida's name is spelled differently on many of the records. At times it's shown as Maida, Maita, Madda. But, better to have something, than nothing....

Hello Lucap and all,

The attached document is marriage record for Carmello Pecorraro and Antonina Ferrara. The written doc is difficult to understand, and I am unable to fully decipher/determine the parents of the bride and groom. Can u help and reply in English? Thank you!

Thank you. I did see that the heading for the bridge and groom stated the names, but I became confused when I saw Francesca twice. I cou;dn't determine the lineage. So, thanks for clearing this for me.
This type of handwriting is very hard for me to translate, and some of the abbreviations are also difficult. I see the name Hieronymous (girolamo) and Angela on Line 9 and another name on Line 10. i have no idea who Angela or others on Line 10 are.
I am trying to obtain info on the parents and grandparents of the bride and groom, so identifying all the names in the doc are important.

Thank you for your help, once again...

Re: Need help translation Marriage Record Palermo

Post by helepera »

Hello. i have another latin mystery to solve. This is the record:
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab10 ... ateUnk.png

It has 2 sections. The first section is the Index of marriage, showing the name GEORGIO GRISTINA SALVATORE of Joseph. So, i assume joseph is the father of Giorgio Salvatore. Yes? ---- The bride appears to be: Joanna Collura of Antony. Yes?

The second section is the marriage info, which I find so difficult to read and translate to English. The first appearance of Salv. does not show Giorgio Salv., and instead shows Salv. di Gristina son of Joseph in the record. Yes? So is his name Giorgio or Sal? Sal, I assume?

BUT: What is the translation after the word Joseph? Is there something about Louis? Then later, I think it states that she is the daughter of Pauli and Antonia. Yes?

Any help (in English) is greatly appreciated.
Ciao e grazie!

Giorgio Di Gristina (not sure about the G of the surname: it's quite different from the G of Giorgio!) son of Salvatore Di Gristina and Anna (Salvatore is son of the late Joseph=Giuseppe)
Giovanna Collura daughter of the late Antonio and the living Antonina (Antonio was son of Paolo)
