Had my Philly appt today!
Re: Had my Philly appt today!
Ok, well now I am discouraged. I can imagine your frustration. I would not be able to locate that much info but is sounds as tho the replies are encouraging and if you have the time and energy( oh and the $) go for it. I am planning on taking tiem off from work to pursue mine. Appears I have a lot of work to do.
Did I read on one of these pages that I can live there for three years before I have to apply for citizneship? Maybe that is the way for me to go.
Any comments are welcome!

This is totally off topic. I dont need this thread turning into nonsense. Im trying to figure out how to work with the consulate.jennabet wrote:I hope the grand-mother doesn't read this forum and learn that somebody suggested having her declared mentally incompetent, which in my opinion, is far worse than waiting for her to be deceased and maybe even illegal, since President Obama signed the Elder Justice Act last year.
Emily, Ill try my best with all of it but my hope has faltered quite a bit and I lost alot of steam now

Forza, is the person who amended your DC a person in vital records?

Lorene, you might want to start a new thread so people can help you better. I walked in with a stack of papers and 1 1/2 years worth of research so Im VERY frustrated. I wish you luck!lorene wrote:Ok, well now I am discouraged. I can imagine your frustration. We're all pulling for you. It's hard not to be frustrated, but put everything aside for now and take it one step at a time. Despite what the interviewer told you, there is no rush at all. If you wish, you can return to the consulate and ask for your file. Then when you're ready, you can resubmit from scratch, without your mom if it makes more sense to do it that way.
Give yourself some time to convince your gm to help you out with this. The other documentation may not be as difficult to obtain as you think.
Of course, you will do what you think is best, but I sure hate it when someone who is clearly qualified is forced to jump through hoops. Hang in there.

It's NOT off topic because the thread is full of references to your elderly ancestor who won't sign.

This is what is making me angry. I have a solid direct line and several docs saying no naturalization. But the consulate wants to be concerned with marriages that arent even in my blood line, direct or non direct.mler wrote: Of course, you will do what you think is best, but I sure hate it when someone who is clearly qualified is forced to jump through hoops. One other suggestion. Your GGF died in 1918 - there's a chance he filled out a WWI draft reg card before he died. That card has a space for nearest relative (usually the spouse). Perhaps your GGM's name is on this document.

Re: Had my Philly appt today!
Im pretty much done. I sent an email to the consulate. She told me if I have any questions to contact her. So I did. I asked about the census I need to give. It says he naturalized but I have 6 records saying he didnt. They said everything needs to match or be corrected. They know damn well a census cant be amended. Plus after talking to my grandmother she refuses to give up a single document or ID saying she didnt renounce citizenship. No, documents and no signature. She thought me and my mom were foolish for showing our own passport and drivers license. So Its pretty much over for me. All my money, time and effort down the toilet. Anyone know if they will mail back an application ?
Re: Had my Philly appt today!
I was able to get my application packet from the Newark consulate, but I went in personally to do so. I think they probably will mail it to you if you ask.
And you really should do this. You never know when you may want to give it another go, maybe even in Italy. I'm so sorry you ran into these two roadblocks, because you DO qualify. But in another place, in another time, with another interviewer, who knows.

Re: Had my Philly appt today!
someone please jump in if this seems like a bad idea but....... as far as the naturalization documents go you should maybe get a letter from nara saying your ancestor naturalized or even go to court and have a judge declare this ancestor never naturalized ? from the research I am doing it seems you can have a judge do almost anything. As far as the other documents go it will most certainly cost time and money but, please remember you will have wasted your year and a half as well as the money already spent. nothing on the list of errors sounds like something that is not doable.
Good luck and dont give up!!

Re: Had my Philly appt today!
I hate to see her give up too, screamingmonkey, but I think she has all the letters of no record. The problem is that the census erroneously states that he was naturalized and, even though census data is very often incorrect, Philly wants to see it. Then there is the gm problem.
