his burial is on.line on this site:

I believe the Mesa family was in the U.S. at the time of the 1930 census because Ernesto in his 1948 arrival from Mexico stated he was in the U.S from 1919 to the present, so we have to search that census.... It may have new clues on it!

Laura

You are brilliant.

The information confirms some of the existing records. The 1919 entry into USA all as Mesa surname. Census 1920 all living in Chicago but all have Capaldi name.

In 1930 census they have moved from Chicago to New York they left Angeline in Chicago and she was living with her aunt, Filomena's sister, Maria De Salve.

Would she also have to petition for naturalisation similar to her brother Leondra (Leo) As she remained in Chicago and later married William Morris the petition would be recorded in Chicago.

Leo's given birth place of Montecassino was probably Cassino which is not far from the family origins in San Giuseppe, Picinisco and Vallegrande, Villa Latina

Thanks for all the record details

It has been a couple of years since I updated this thread. Last week I discovered that Filomena's 1st husband was Leandro Mendoza, a mexican born citizen who was studying painting and art in europe.

He contracted TB and returned to Mexico where he unfortunately died.

Still not sure if Filomena and their children were going to Mexico before or after he died.

Also from census information Filomena and both her 1st two children were born in Italy.

Any more info on their marriage, Leandro Mendoza's death or birth of the children would be helpful.

thanks

Stuart

Hello Stuart,

How did you get to find this information out?

Have you any dates of Birth or Death for Leandro?

Jamie

I received an e-mail from Leandro Mendoza's niece who lives in California. Her father was Leandro's brother.

I am now waiting for further details from her e.g dates birth, marriage, death etc.

However if anyone can confirm that a "Maria Morales" was also a passenger on the ship from Hamburg to Vera Cruz in 1913 I would be delighted.

Thanks

Stuart

To all in this thread

Thanks for your assistance in my search, it has been excellent and has resulted in the niece of Filomena's 1st husband (Leandro Mendoza) contacting me.

Of course as all genealogy followers know "once we have solved a mystery it is not the end. It just means there are more questions to answer"

I intend to start a new thread with my new questions, however once again "Thank You"

Stuart
