I have found listings for my first cousins in Italy throu one of the links...is there a way of finding out if they email without actually having to call them? I'm not concerned about the cost as much as I am about the time differences and our schedules...
Can a forum member give us a link to email listings in Italy... ??

A few years ago, I was able to find an email directory listing site... but can't now... security issues maybe... ?

Generating a letter wouldn't hurt... an illustration of your family tree would really help also... you could send a self addressed stamped envelope ... I think you can buy European stamps at the post office...

Enjoying this are we??? :P

Would have replied sooner... but a paesano called looking for an evasive ancestor... recently Ancestry.com updated some of the databases and sure enough... he was there... quite exciting...

I have made some progress with the Angilletta side. Caterina Fudas first husband was named Enrico Angilletta who died in the war (1915 or 1918). They had one daughter Enricchetta who is still alive in Reggio Calabria (she is about 90 yrs old now). Bruno, his brother, my grandfather married her shortly after in a civil(?)(commune)ceremony but not in the church....does this make sense? Where do I find enrico's info...I can't communicate with his daughter well enough to ask her and since she is so old it is difficult for her to remember and I really don't know my cousins very well...YET!

Bruno and Caterinas children were:
Maria
Cosimo(b: 1925- d:1995 in Toronto)
Angela
Rocco(died in 1994 in Guardavalle, Cat)
Conchetta
Damiano (b:1932)

Can anyone help?

certainly does... Civil marriages are non-denominational.
Yes I am enjoyinging it..my mom will be down later to help me go through some documents and my sister and I have made plans to work together this weekend..Thank God its Friday but now, another weekend and no house work!! Oh well!!!
The housework can wait :P

I usually research late at night when all is quiet....

Nice to see your progress...
Where do I find enrico's info...I can't communicate with his daughter well enough to ask her and since she is so old it is difficult for her to remember and I really don't know my cousins very well...YET!

Have you tried to communicate with her in the past? I'd still write a letter... she could be living with someone or being cared by someone... that could help with a reply. Don't count her out. It's worth a try?? You might get to know your cousins there. What have you got to lose? Send a pic too.

There's going to be a massive battle for the computer here...any minute now... but it's Friday!!!

More later...

Oh yes.... zero in on the birthdates of Francesco Bruno and Enrico and Caterina (you may already have somewhere)

Ancestral film can be researched at a Family History Center... If they were born before 1910... and they were... you could get matrimony records, birth records etc.... by researching mcrofilm... or you could write to the "Comune"... ricbru posted addresses for you on page one.... but if Bruno or Enrico did take a trip to the USA... we should be looking for a boat record...
Enrico died in Italy?

Was Bruno's son Cosimo (who died in Toronto) ever in the USA?

I'm not sure if Cosimo was ever in the USA prior to 1972-1974 when he visited us in NY (we lived there for 5 years)...why?

Possible that Enrico was in USA during the war but no one knows. Bruno Never left Italy that I know of..I will attempt looking at boat records for the war years but sometimes I can't get into the manifests...I will try and as ricbru suggestted I will contact the addresses..

I will call Italy at about midnoght..I do have a cousin I talk to occasionally and will ask for his help..found his number and addresses through the forum links (I had lost it after I got married)

What do you mean by Civil marriages are non-denominational?

I'll let you get back to doing battle,,,,

The Comune doesn't care what your religion is and marries all faiths... (a civil marriage)...

...

There's a USA WW2 record of a Cosimo Angilletta born 1926... thought he could be yours.
I can post it later is you wish ...

I don't think this is my uncle..although there was another Cosimo in Canada that was often confused with the people I'm looking for due to the similiar birth years...

I can not find much out about the Angillettas..theres something I'm missing but I have found relatives with similar names..I followed them but there is still a missing link..
Maybe I need to find birth/death records as mentioned earlier..There is though a Chrisifaro Angilletta born around 1774, son of Antonino Angilletta and Caterina Zavaglia and thats all I can found on him..I can't follow if he had children or when he died..
Is it possible that Caterina Fuda Angilletta and her daughter Enricchetta, born 1915 (father Enrico) would have been "wards" or something of a church while he was at War?

I have found through a link an email address of a cousin in Italy and have emailed him for information on the Polito side..thanks...

I don't know...

The only closest document I could find about this family was the manifest of a Bruno Francesco Angilletta (single)... but his father in Italy was also a Rocco. (page 1 of this post)

If they didn't travel or live in the USA... online information will be limited. At this point, researching from film will give you answers, or writing to the Comune.

p.s. There's still hope for that 1910 census record from the Polito family which I haven't found... any volunteers??

Thank you all so much for your help...especially mfjp. My childrens great grandmother passed away on Thursday(my husbands grandmother). She was 92. After the funeral yesterday, the family, which is quite large and rarely together was able to all meet. She was the glue that held the family together and it was Nonnas wish that we never forget where we came from and each other. I mentioned the last few weeks that I had been researching the families and found that several of my husbands cousins had tried to do the same but didn't know where to start. I was able to provide them information I had gotten and they filled in missing pieces. I have emailed everyone all the info this afternoon and the name of this website. I knew there was a reason for the interest in our family! Thank you all for your help.

My condolences to you and your family. I thank you too... your last post meant a lot to me.

I know you've made a contribution to your family by seeking your children's roots. I hope your husband is proud of you. Hopefully one day, your children will continue with this family project.

I can remember asking my Grandfather about his father... and all he could tell me was "no lo sa"... (I don't know) after a long pause. After he passed away, we also questioned Nonna about him... and she could only answer "no lo sa". My Grandfather (living in Italy at the time) was only 4 when his father died here in Canada.

Years later, teaming up with cousins, we got most of the answers we needed. We had a difficult time, but we had a great time. I can never forget the triumphs we shared...

E-mail is so wonderful! Glad you emailed your paesans and hope a family network is established. Hope you have Genea software to keep track of everyone.

Through research, I've been able to connect with paesanos from Newfoundland right to British Columbia and down to West Virginia. It began by just a "hello" email...", making a few long distance calls, sharing genea trees written on taped up paper sent via snail mail. A couple of years later, I found myself having lunch with a few of them here in Toronto at the Mandarine.

What I really love about research is not just finding an ancestor of years ago, but by connecting with paesanos here today in Canada and the USA who also share the same interests.

Christmas is coming, and have been busy with other projects, but find it hard to avoid this forum...

Well... it's snowing again... and I hear that we are in for an icy cold December..

I haven't given up on that 1910 census record... yet...

Thanking you,
maria

Hi again,
I am making progress but once again I need help.
I have found a manifest for a Domenico Fuda 38, travelling to see his brother in law Giuseppe Angilletta in Penn. USA. These may have been related to both sides of my family because I've heard the names mentioned.
The info is as follows:
First Name: Domenico
Last Name: Fuda
Ethnicity: Italy, South
Last Place of Residence: Grotteria
Date of Arrival: Mar 24, 1904
Age at Arrival: 38y Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Liguria
Port of Departure: Napoli
Manifest Line Number: 0025

What should a be looking for next... a census? Can anyone please help and advise if I've read this correctly. Thanks and I look foward to hearing from you.

Yes, a census would be the right thing to look for....

I can help... got a few minutes to spare this evening...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, since most of the Angiletta research is here, I thought I would post the manifest you were looking for in another post...
I'm having trouble viewing the Aug 10, 1907 manifest for Francesco Angiletta and Giuseppa Angiletta. It too keeps saying no image available and no matter what I try, I can't get it to come up...maybe its really not available? Does anyone know?

I will look it up for you....

First Name: Francesco
Last Name: Angiletta
Ethnicity: Italian, South
Last Place of Residence: Grotteria, Reggio
Date of Arrival: Aug 10, 1907
Age at Arrival: 38y Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Europa
