Is there any way for finding out cause of death? The certificates just seem to state date and place of death whereas British certificates always give cause.
My great grandfather died when he was only in his mid thirties and his son was only aged 6 but we are unable to find out what happened.

Re: Death certificates
Very few Italian death records give a cause of death. You pretty much have to do some research concerning what was going on in the region of Italy during the time period in question. Young and old alike died from infectious diseases. There was cholera and typhoid in the summer months, and malaria primarily in the fall. There were breakouts of diphtheria, whooping cough, influenza, and pneumonia. In December, even adults succumbed to complications from pneumonia. There were outbreaks of smallpox among young children. As to women, some died from complications from childbirth and, if that was the case, you will see a woman dying soon after giving birth.

Thank you for this - the deaths were 1908 and 1914 for son and father respectively, both in Mombercelli - just adds to sadness of it all. I will keep searching
