Looking for any info about my grandmother Maria Grazia Tardio Scelza
She was born Feb 24 1890 possible in Valle Della Lucania or Salvitelle
She married Gaetano Scelza and arrived in NY in 1919 and settled in New Rochelle NY

Maria Grazia was 22, born in Massa, daughter of deceased Francesco [Tardio] and of living Teresa Maiese.

Here is another generation back in the Tardio family

Death of Maria Grazia Tardio's father, Francesco Tardio, in 1894 in V. Lucania
#37 - dated 19 March 1894
Death occurred on 18 March 1894 at 4:40 PM at the house in Via San Pietro.
Francesco Tardio was age 42, a peasant farmer who was born in Massa, and resided in Massa. He was the son of deceased Angelo [Tardio] a peasant farmer who resided in Massa; and of deceased Fortunata Labruna who also resided in Massa.
Francesco was the husband of Teresa Maiese.
Making the declaration of his death at the town office were Angelo Palladino, 28, mason; and Luigi Puglia, 38, peasant farmer.
Witnesses to the recording of the death were Giuseppe Giannattasio, 27, PF; and Angelo Di Sevo, 28, PF.

Thank you for this additional info.
Is it possible to get a birth record for the infant named Antonio Scelza.
We have no info on this child but we do have info on the older boy also named Antonio. Could it be that this baby who they refer to on the ship records was listed by a middle name.
I think that first son was named after the paternal grandfather and a second son after the maternal grandfather, so maybe the child was really Francesco Antonio.

You can write directly to the Comune of Vallo della Lucania to request this child's birth act. You can provide an approx. year (1919-1920) and the name of the parents.

There is no charge for this record. However, you should include a Photo ID, and an email in case they need to contact you. Including a self-addressed UNSTAMPED envelope is a nice courtesy
