Hi I wondered if you could help. My Great grandfather came to Belfast in 1897 and married my great grandmother apparently on 20 Aug 1900 in Belfast . (my Mum gave me his Identity book which states this) it also states this is when my g grandmother aquired Italian citizenship. However I havd not been able to find a marriage record for this date. I have found a marriage record for both my g grandparents on 2nd June 1920 in Belfast. This is when my grandfather would have been 10 yrs old yet on his birth record in 1910 it gives his Mum's maiden name ie (formly Sherlock.) I don't understand how they would have gotten married twice or indeed if they actually did, and wondered if you locate a marriage record for their 1900 marriage. Grandparents names are Italiano/ Carlo Riani born 1 Nov 1881 in Barga. Rose Ann Sherlock/ Rosina Riani born Nov 1879 Belfast.
Much appreciation in advance.

Perhaps the 1900 marriage was a church marriage and not a civil marriage?
Do you know what churches were in Belfast at the time?
From the National Archives of Ireland... 1911 Census shows them to be married for 10 years.

Re: Help to locate marriage record please in Belfast
Thanks so much for your help. Their second marriage was a church wedding. (St Peter's) in Belfast. I'm wondering if the first was a civil marriage, then church in 1920, or indeed if the they did marry in 1900. Could they put on the census if it wasn't true? My great aunt was born in 1901 and my g grandfather was not listed as the father, which makes me wonder if she was his child at all or if he met my g grandmother later as my Grandfather was botn in 1910 and he is listed as the father on his birth record.
Many thanks
Many thanks

No matter how I structure the search, I only find the marriage of 1920.

Thank you for your help. I'm not sure why they would have another marriage date and it can't be found.I have tried many times myself. It's a mystery
